You said that you didn't think Smith would lose the backup job to Beck. What I said was that while I also didn't think he would lose the backup job to Beck, it would be more likely than Smith taking the starting job.

You're open to the instance of an injury being the reason "another" QB will start for Baltimore. You specifically say that Beck is more likely to lose the spot to start than Troy become a starter...... So are you saying for Flacco to get injured Beck must become the back up? Why go through the trouble of saying that Beck is more likely to be the number two, when just saying barring a Flacco injury Troy will not see the field as the starting QB is so much easier considering this is an tOSU board?

Considering injuries often happen in the NFL and Troy is the back up, I do think he has a chance to become a starter for a game or two.

I want Troy to succeed. So maybe it blinds me.

None of what you think was said, was said "specifically". I'm not even sure that it was implied.

One man asks if Troy has a chance to "lock down the #1 spot"

major basically says that the job is Flacco's to lose, and that Troy is more likely to be passed on the depth chart, than to pass someone on the depth chart. Given the politics of the situation in Baltimore, I don't think that was a particularly outrageous or laughable statement. People know that Troy could leave at the end of the year if he doesn't see a chance to start in Baltimore. Beck was brought in to compete for the #2 spot with Troy, and Troy has been practicing at other positions...has Beck?

I watched the Raven`s a few times last year. Flacco is ok. I just don`t see him being a probowl qb but I could be wrong. Last year they had an amazing defense. I think TS should get out of there when he has the chance. I believe he is good enough to start in the NFL. I think he could be a Drew Brees kind of qb with a little time. Go Bucks

Pressure is on Flacco to improve passing game

When the Ravens open the preseason against the Washington Redskins Thursday night, fans at M&T Bank Stadium will welcome a new defensive coordinator, another highly touted first-round pick and perhaps a different quarterback.

Last season, it was Joe Cool who led the Ravens to the AFC championship game. But at this year's training camp, Fiery Flacco has surprisingly surfaced up at times.

One day after not reading the defense properly, Flacco walked to the sideline and threw his helmet down in frustration. A few days later, he missed an open receiver in the end zone, which led him to clapping his hands in the middle of the field and shouting an expletive in disgust.

It'll be interesting to see whether Flacco returns to his usual calm self or if he continues to show an emotional side.

"No one should read anything into that," a teammate said. "If you know Joe, he is just pushing himself harder than anyone else."

With 31 days left before the Sept. 13 season opener, the pressure is on Flacco and the Ravens to improve their passing attack. The Ravens averaged 175.5 yards passing last season, which was fifth-worst in the NFL.

But some media and fans haven't been impressed with the progress at training camp. Flacco has thrown a high number of interceptions, which is uncharacteristic of the 2008 first-round pick. Last season, the rookie threw five interceptions in his last 11 regular-season games.

Offensive coordinator Cam Cameron isn't panicking.

"I'd be concerned if he weren't throwing some interceptions, because now's the time to test your limits," Cameron said. "The only way your quarterback can grow is to try to squeeze some balls in at this time of year to find the limits – find the limits of the receiver, find the limits of the defender, find the limits of your protection.

"Then, as the season approaches, and obviously it starts to change. Now, if he's doing it every snap, which he's not doing that, [I'd be concerned]. But that's the only way I know."

In the preseason opener, Flacco is scheduled to play at least the first quarter. Troy Smith will quarterback the second and third quarters, and John Beck will finish it out.
