Who would have thought back in 2003 that we would be having a legitimate debate about Troy Smith winning the Heisman in 2006. It is amazing how much he progressed from Kick Returner to Star QB.

The Heisman is awarded before the BCS games are played, but since the Buckeyes are 4-0 in them, you may be safe in assuming a BCS win in this situation.

It is amazing how Troy Smith has progressed. I was always a skeptic but he has just made amazing improvement on not locking in on WR's, only running when he has too, and his accuracy has improved a lot. I think it's legitimate to have Quinn above Smith in pre-season though. Quinn is a great QB as well but I think when they lose 2-3 games this year, Smith will be the front runner.
Edit: It's legitimate to say the two are interchangable is more what I meant. I could see either as an early favorite for the Heisman.

2005 Brady Quinn QB rating: 158.70
2005 Troy Smith QB rating: 162.66
I think Troy has shown more leadership too, he is more mature, and makes wiser decisions. Though Brady threw way more TD passes than Troy, Troy threw less interceptions, and was able to ditribute the ball better. They both completed about the same percentage of their passes, so I think Troy is the front-runner

But give Charlie Weis 11 months to prepare a Heisman campaign......

So I said it...
So I said it on the Kiper's thread and will say it here.
TS is the next Steve Young. Comparisons to Black QB's bogus. Troy has all of the tools to be a HOF QB. I say he goes top 10.
Maybe not...but that's his mark. Steve Young had a tough road to success an maybe Troy does too. But given his talent, dedication, charisma and leadership ability I say he wins the Heisman, goes top 10 and eventually takes a team to the SB.
There I said it.
