The point, I think, most of us we're making is that if you're going to drop one player 3 rounds because he a bad game -- the only bad game he's had all year -- how can you keep another player whose had several bad games in the top-5?
I seriously doubt Troy won't have a team after the first 2 rounds, and I know there are plenty of opportunities for him to raise (or lower) his prospects. The point was that this shows how full of malarkey Mel Kiper is. He was obviously looking for a reason to drop Troy Smith, OR acting willfully ignorant and having a suspension of disbelief to keep Brady Quinn so high.
The point is that Mel is a self-aggrandizing dick. And he is.

I love the [censored]ing juxtaposition of a great term like "self-aggrandizing" with a lesser, crude word like "dick".

i think kiper dropped him a little lower than i would have. but looking at the situation objectively and taking into account most people haven't watched every single game of his over the last 3 years... its not hard to imagine that the unpopular opinion that he was a decent qb surrounded by elite players has become a bit more popular since the nc game.
your best wr gets deep sixed and suddenly you score 6 in a game against a team many said you would drop 40 on..? yeah, people are gonna start to wonder about the qb.
some gm's are going to take the layoff into account. some will take the heismen appearances into account. some will actually sit down and watch some of his high profile games. but just as many won't. secondly, not every team is looking for a qb right now. if the draft happened today with some of the names in the draft, i wouldn't be surrpised at all to see him taken somewhere in the 3rd. fortunately for troy the draft isn't today. he still has a lot of opportunities to make or break his pro future.
as far as bq goes. i think peolpe get too bent out of shape about where he projects as a nfl'er. while id take troy over bq any day of the week and twice on sundays... im more than willing to admit bq is a prototypical qb and troy is anything but.
lets all try to be a little more objective and read saw's post from the previous page again. this situation is still extremely fluid yet. troy still has the worlds longest job interview to look forward to.

Like NDC, I think you're taking my statement as an attack on BQ. It's not. It's an attack on Mel. I agree with the idea that a QB would drop in GMs' estimation after a game like the one on the 8th -- but 3 rounds? While you're keeping another guy who has shown he consistently has similar issues in the top-5 based on your premise that he's "prototypical"? Time to raise the bs flag.
I'll stand by my original argument and conclusion: Mel is a dick.

The problem with this whole post is that it presupposes that what Kiper says has any meaning whatsoever. What NFL team does Mel Kiper own?.................Exactly...............Take a deep breath and let's move on from what Kiper has to say. Now, doesn't that make you feel better. Take a deep breath and look at the calender. It's January. There is not a single NFL GM that gives a flying [censored] what Kiper says. They will make their own decision and TS has the opportunity in the next few months to influence that decision....
This is the same [censored] every friggin year. These guys will go where they go in the draft.............Donte Whitner anyone?

Actually, I don't think anything in there presupposes that Kiper's opinion has any affect on the draft. In fact, I clearly stated that I think TS will still go in the first 2 rounds. Why would I say that if I'm convinced Kiper has any influence?
My only point was that Kiper is full of malarkey. But everyone wants to take this to mean something else.

Ok, one last time...Who here actually heard what he has said?....You in the back?......No?.....I thought not......Kiper said a lot more than anyone in this thread has been willing to discuss. Start a "bitch about Mel Kiper" thread somewhere else. This is getting very tedious, especially considering that none of the Kiper bashers in this thread have even come close to fairly characterizing his comments about TS...And again I have no reason to defend him, but there was nothing unfair or unreasonable in what he said. There are plenty of things to bitch about, what Kiper has said about TS is not one of them...
