I'm not at all surprised by this. Very disappointed to say the least, though. When I have people I trust telling me, before any of the Mo C [censored] was made public, that something could be very wrong in Columbus, that Tressel may have some involvement, and that there may be more players, current players, that did take money or would be dumb enough to take money during this season, after all the [censored] hit the fan...and then this? How can I be surprised at all? There are some boosters at OSU that have more power than alot of you realize...but that power can be cut off if necessary. Problem is, fear and intimidation goes a long way if you want to cut off that kind of relationship. I fear that the same people that helped Mo are helping out Troy and some others possibly and if OSU doesn't do something about this soon, it's gonna get even worse.
This really friggin sucks.
Folanator, the question is, did someone at OSU help Smith out like they may have with Clarett? I can't blame Smith as much as I blame the people responsible for giving him these things.
I have yet to hear what he was given or what in the hell he purchased, but it's not a pair of shoes, I can say that much.

Alan: "honestly...someone does need to start a thread in the rumor mill about this...."

At this point, so much has gone on with this program during the Jim Tressel era that, coincidence or not, I'm realizing that he's not beyond reporach in all of this. Is this directly his fault? No. A resounding 'no'. I think what Goof said about his 'lack of temper' might be off a bit. I think that maybe he knew/knows about things that are likely to go on without anyone ever noticing and turns a blind eye to it.

well, I won't go into [censored] here cause I started a rumor mill thread on this. Tressel's problem is he doesn't intimidate anyone. It's a players' dream to have someone like him around. They can do whatever the hell they feel like.

It had nothing to do with cars. There was also no way OSU could have known about it. No lack of institutional control.
While the situation sucks, I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt that it won't result in any penalties for the school.

I don't think there was any cars or anything extravagant either. I am leaning towards OSU having nothing at all to do with it and Smith just [censored]ed up, but what I'm saying is, who is leading these players to the people handing out the money?

Goofy;
If he took cash from a booster, wouldn't he be suspended indefinitely???
JT and AG seemed to indicate that they investigated and would apply for reinstatement after 1 game. While disappointing, doesn't sound like it was really that egregious (sp?) of an offense.

Thanks CB, I will take that to heart.
In some ways I am looking at this as the point that could be the defining moment. It now should be absolutely Crystal clear that JT and the admin will not take this anymore. I would hope that this would purge this cancer from the football program.

you flirt with the idea of ginn seeing a little action under center in practice and if it seems semi decent you run with it. you don't blow a redshirt at this stage though unless zwick leaves in an ambulance and there is noone else. theres just no point. this is the alamo bowl after all. nothing against osu junior, but "for all the marbles" it ain't. you throw zwick in there and if he can hack it, great. if he can't, we loose bad and boekman is our starter going into next year.
i think zwick will be fine though. im sure he is healed up by now. the line has been playing considerably better, we have something resembling a running game, and the defense is finally healthy and playing well. zwick will get a very simple play book and we will play ball control football. there will be no flash and not a whole lot of scoring. nugent kicks 15 or so field goals and is the mvp.
smith will be on the team in 05. but id be surprised he ever sees the field again outside of a "throw him a bone" senior year game. as little play time as he got when zwick was having a rough go at it, its clear he wasn't well thought of at the beginning of the year. this little slap in the face to tress and AG... yeah, they will let him back on the field and in uniform. but he's done. its sad, because he really had a once in a lifetime oportunity.

cincyfred, applying for reinstatement means he violated an NCAA rule. If it's not academics, then it's accepting improper benefits. If he accepted something from a booster, he has to pay it back before being reinstated and only the NCAA can decide that. He is, in fact, suspended indefinetely.
