When do we start looking at what Tressel is doing here? No one has mentioned this at all, and since he has taken over there has been alot of problems with our university. Now weather he knows about this or not he's NOT sending a message and he needs to do so very soon. I love that he brings us winning seasons and National Championships, but what in the hell is he doing with this program? I'm sick and tired of seeing negative things like this to put our great program down. Now even though none of us like cooper or his ability to have our kids graduate, we still had NO problems in keeping kids out of trouble with the NCAA and the law. Now this is just my opinion and yeah I'll probably get hammered for this, but I've taken off my buckeye homer glasses and tried to see this from the others point of view, and maybe it wouldn't a bad Idea to see what Tressel is doing? If its boosters giving money I believe fully that Tressel could atleast keep them away from the program, but instead it seems fairly easy to get to these people.

As for Troy, I love his style of play and he is probably my second favorite buckeye behind Mike D'Andrea. However, throw him off the team. Make an example and a stand for this program to let it known that this is not exceptable. Zwick, although he probably isn't as talented than Troy will do just fine with a better running game and a better line next year. Also Boeckman I heard is doing great.
Yea you might get hammered I don't know but listen... and yes I feel your pain, but this is a delicate situation and you should know all the politics involved here. JT will have to meet several times before he can react the way I think you want him to. who's knows he may even have to to get approvals from the all mighty booster and alumni assoc.. But moreover JT was brought here to win football games just like Cooper before him. Who knows when JT his staff... and all of us have these recruits under a microscope if or why they will make bad decisions in life and at OSU..... or any NCAA program.

These Players are individuals when they do these dumb things that they do, JT or AG are not there to watch them all the time. Just like JT and AG cannot take responsibility when these great student athletes run kickoffs for 70 plus yards for a touchdown. Lets just have some confidence in the rest of th team after all, there are other great athletes on this team. And there is also great people on this team (the people that are really affected by this, the players and coaches themselves).

We know it was an NCAA violation, JT and AG have said as much. Was it taking money though? Could it be that he just broke some kind of law or failed 2 classes (the term did just end, right?). Are these NCAA violations, too? I'm not to up to snuff on that kind of stuff.

As for Jim Tressel being the perfect player's coach and not being mean or intimidating, how sure are we about this? That 'little coaching game' in the main forum said that JT sort of rules by intimidation. confirm/deny?

Of course, a conspiracy theory is that they really are ESPN or scUM folks.
the problem is, they don't care. They just say keep it quiet. Some of these boosters have more power than you realize

I really think that Troy could be the real deal and I have really been looking forward to the Alamo Bowl and next year, so I am not going to over-react.

However, if this guy has taken money or something else of value from boosters, then I sincerely hope Ohio State expels him. Plain and simple.

I believe that AG or JT said that this situation does not relate to the Mo thing. I would suspect that if they are trying to maintain the appearance of institutional control, they wouldn't lie at this juncture. They wouldn't lie because the truth is going to come out soon. Lying would harm them more than telling the truth.

I know, someone's going to tell me I'm "absurd" again. I don't care. I think you CAN judge a person's guilt/motives by what they say in their own defense.

I also believe that OSU is now doing EXACTLY what you're supposed to do when you discover an NCAA violation. You self-report, and you self-impose penalties that you think are acceptable. The damn shame about this thing is that it makes people think they are guilty, when they could have avoided the whole mess by sweeping it under the rug. Again, they didn't do that. They self-reported, and self-penalized. That says to me that they are doing the right thing, not the wrong thing. Covering it up WOULD be an NCAA violation for Ohio State. Does anyone understand the difference?

who's to say any improper benfits were from a booster?......it's possible but this sinds like an fsu case where players get handouts from fans and students who work at local stores.....lavereous coles, peter warrick and darnell dockett all received improper benfits with no help from boosters

Goofy;

Good point. However, Ohio State has had a lot of experience at this lately and I'm sure they did their homework before deciding WHEN to apply for reinstatement. If they felt that the NCAA would toss their application after 1 game in the trash, I would think they would have imposed a 3 game suspension or 4 game suspension, etc. before applying for reinstatement. While I realize that the NCAA has the final say, I would think that Ohio State has a pretty good idea ahead of time how many game(s) would satisfy the NCAA before applying for reinstatement.

I know this because some of my family is friends with him and friends with some of his ex-coaches. He's never been an intimidating guy. He doesn't yell and scream at people to get his point across. He does make ultimatums to players if he suspects something. That's not a bad thing at all and you really have to be that way with alot of kids. When it comes to the way you act off the field, that does not help alot. It makes the kids who are mature enough to understand his points better men, but it also makes the kids that aren't mature enough, thinking more and more they can get away with [censored]. Suspending a player doesn't spread fear to everyone. To some, it's seen as, just don't get caught. Being mild mannered like Tressel is good on some aspects, bad with others. He's a teacher that happens to be a football coach. He'd make a great counselor, but not a good principle. Know what I'm saying?

If anyone is scared of him going pro, don't worry about it. He doesn't have that mean streak in him to handle pro players. He barely has it in him to handle D1-A players at one of the top football schools.
