Not being a cop I am just speculating, but my guess is they determined that this was a random fight and nothing warranted conducting a full investigation. I never have seen anything talking about anyone even being arrested.

Thumbs down Gamble Article

http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/sports/...ty/8018705.htm

Quote:
Those who were disappointed with Ohio State cornerback Chris Gamble's junior season might have had a right to be.

Gamble admitted Sunday at the NFL combine that he took it easy in the Fiesta Bowl against Kansas State in January because he didn't want to risk injury and hurt his professional chances. Gamble declared after the game that he was turning pro, much to the surprise of OSU coach Jim Tressel.

``The last game I was thinking about it and thinking about not getting hurt,'' he said. ``The fourth quarter, that's when I really started thinking about it.''

Gamble also said he lost some of his enthusiasm in 2003 because he was no longer playing both ways.

You mean the fourth quarter where the defense gave up 21 points after holding K-State in check for nearly the whole game? In Gamble's case, I don't think it's a function of his leaving early to go pro, but the fact that in his last mind it was his last game whether it was his junior or senior season. Good thing he didn't stay for his senior season and then back off in the fourth quarter of the Orange Bowl because he was afraid of getting hurt. Could you imagine if that happened and we blew a big lead in the title game to lose and then find out later that our star corner was playing soft so he would get hurt?

That is very disappointing, to say the least. I'd love to go back and re-watch the game, especially the 4th qtr, after hearing this.

I understand that getting hurt could be a problem for a guy going into the draft, but that's no excuse for taking it easy. As long as you're a part of the team, you should play your best for the team. Imagine how we'd all feel now if we had lost that game and heard this?

To bad he didnt play the whole season not to get hurt. IMO, the Fiesta Bowl was by far his best game of the season.
I still have no idea why pro teams have him so high on their boards. I would have taken Fox over him this year, especially in the 4th.

Dissappointing, but, if you're playing not to get hurt it IS time to move on. Better to make the move now then to spend an entire season playing "not to get hurt".

I thought he was playing hurt with a bum hand. Isn't that what caused him to drop the interception against Purdue?????

I'm not really sure that some of these guys think before they speak. What does that comment say to a coach or a GM of an NFL team, or even potential teammates!!!!????

I would have to think that comment did nothing except maybe hurt his draft chances... how will he play in the last couple of games in the year that he turns a free agent? If that is true, IMO it would have been better for him to not bring it up...

Chris was a phenom, and did much for tOSU, and was likeable doing it for the most part. But, it is disconcerting to read that his seeming lowered productivity in '03 was essentially because he was at least psychologically pouting about wanting to be featured more. I didn't think his Fiesta Bowl effort was too bad, but I would have been perfectly happy not to have read today's article quoting him.
Go Bucks!

Agree with RCL. That is an unfortunate thing to have said. I always try to convince myself that the players want these games as badly as I do - but it appears that is not always the case. So much for the old "110%" cliche.

At least it was only the Fiesta Bowl. Too bad... he needed as much work at corner as he could get. He's a great athlete but he still needs to work on skills... he should have used the end of the game for that alone. BCS Bowl, National TV... I'm sure the scouts were watching.

You know, I can actually understand if he was playing that way with a 21 point lead. He probably figured the game was in hand and then started to think about how he should play the ultimate prevent defense of his draft status, not to get hurt. I certainly don't condone his actions, but give him credit for admitting it. I too wonder what kind of message he is sending to prospective bosses.

NFL players have talked about taking plays off, such as Randy Moss. Is it me or is it the guys with exceptional talent that tend to do that more? Maybe the guys who don't have that pure talent and rely more on hard work are the guys who would never think about taking a play off and consider each play their last.

Now, he needs to make sure he can keep focus for an entire game in the NFL because chances are he will not be playing both sides of the ball. Also, the level of play will be such that he cannot afford to take it easy.
