Tis the season for college football transfer rumors, and they have been flying all month about the possible offseason departures of Ohio State receivers Lamaar Thomas and Taurian Washington. But this time the buzz comes with an intriguing twist: With Duron Carter and Ray Small not making the trip to the Rose Bowl, Thomas and Washington figure to receive more playing time.
If there's any truth to the rumors -- and coach Jim Tressel claimed not to have heard them when he was asked about them earlier this month -- then it makes for a weird dynamic. Presumably, one or both could prove that they deserve a better look next season. Then again, maybe Tressel would be tempted to give some of that playing time to those he is certain will be returning.
Simple logic says that Thomas would be the more likely of the two to move on because he's a sophomore and his playing time has decreased from a year ago; coming into the season, it appeared likely that he would see more action than he has. Washington is a junior, and unless he transfers to a lower-division school, he would have to sit out a season and would have only one year of eligibility remaining.
At this point, barring injuries, there don't appear to be many opportunities for them at OSU next season. Dane Sanzenbacher and DeVier Posey seem to have a lock on the top two receiver spots, and Carter is likely to fill the third spot.

The last time we were in the Rose Bowl, a young kid by the name of David Boston drove the winning dagger into the hearts of all Sun Devil faithful at the end of that game. Perhaps a young unheralded fella like Lamaar can set himself up for a blossoming career with a big game on the biggest stage.

Dane typically moves over to slot in our 3 WR sets, that's also when he (Dane) gets most of his touches. But who knows where they'll line up on gameday. Either way, opportunity knocks.

After TG left it looked like the coaches were so enamored with what TG brought to the field, they wanted "the next Ted Ginn".
Teddy was a once in a lifetime type player(like TP).
Flash's skill set didn't translate(grow?) as well for some reason. While we would all love another TGII.

I think we'll be waiting a long, long time for "another Ted Ginn". Ted Ginn couldn't even live up to his own hype in many people's eyes after his spectacular frosh campaign.

Lamaar hasn't got the reps et to fully judge yet.....

Agreed. Lamaar is going from a running back to a reciever, and its a different skill set. Who knows if it will click for Flash, but with the measurables, the potential to click is definately there.
