I am learning to get excited about every recruit JT picks up because his ability to judge talent so far exceeds any of the services. But I agree he is a certain RS.
Has anyone heard how Gholston plaed in the all star game? |

I have to confess that I was never in favor of dropping 8 and seeing 3-down lineman handle the responsibilities of getting the job done. But I have to say that watching the way Ohio State executed that formation was very impressive. Especially with the D-lineman we have had the past 3 years.
Anderson which played the Nose did such a great job taking on a double team and our line backers were so damn quick, that the reads the QB was seeing, was confused all to hell and back. My question is weather Gholston can be as quick and strong as what we use to have in Petersen and and Fraser. I sure hope so. |

I agree that I think Gholston is going to be a big part of our team here in about 1-2 years instead of 2-3. Honestly I think this kid will pick up fast on our system and maybe be able to contribute on special teams if he really does has 4.4 speed! He'd crush the Big Speed chart that is currently marked at 4.7........ thats ALOT faster actually but we'll see how it goes!I'm happy to have him tho and I agree also that tressel has the uncanny ability to find kids who aren't necessarily the best according to the rankings but after they get a year under there belt under him perform in an unbelieveable manner! Go bucks!

I think Barrow and Gholston are going to be a great set of bookend DE's in a couple years. Barrow seems to be the more polished player at this point, and should get earlier playing time, but Gholston may have a better upside. Both should be a force to be reckoned with.

edit: BSB does have him listed at 4.5 (and 238 lbs.), for whatever stock you put in that. Pretty smokin' fast for a DE (although not big enough to play DE yet), in my opinion. Last edited by zincfinger; 07-30-2004 at 01:49 PM. Reason: update |

alright
Alright I see the listing but I was .1 tenth of a second off so he runs a 4.5! haha still its 2 tenths better than our fastest DE..... Hopefully the kid will work hard and keep his head on straight and earn some playing time in the years to come.

Power, I was actually viewing that BSB number as validation of the number you put out there. I would have been very skeptical about either number, simply because DE's don't run like that. If he could keep that kind of speed after packing on about 20 lbs., there're gonna be some O-linemen across the conference looking very, very bad in a couple of years.

Good Point and I realized that he's going to gain weight just like most recruits do in their first year, but you also have to realize what these kids go through. They make these kids get bigger but you better bet your money they won't let that kid get slow. They have programs so strict and to the point that they gain weight but also maintain as much speed as possible. When its all said and done I really wouldn't be surprised to see him in the 260 range running probably around a 4.6 . However thats just my opinion. As we know 40 times don't mean a damn thing in football sometimes so as long as he knows how to use his speed to advantage I could care less if he ran a 5.0 . For sure that 4.5 I'd take any day. GO BUCKS.
