No wonder he was interested in making a visit to UT,but that's all for not since we have Martin aboard and now & all is well and Mobley is excited to come in at DL where he wanted to play all along.

Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel made a recruiting stop in the Twin Cities on Tuesday, visiting several schools and 2008 verbal commitment Willie Mobley of Eden Prairie.

Mobley, a four-star defensive tackle, denied Internet rumors Tuesday that he is considering decommitting from Ohio State in favor of the Gophers.

Mobley said he still talks to Gophers coach Tim Brewster and defensive line coach Tim Cross regularly, but he said that does not mean he is having a change of heart.

?I?m a Buckeye,? he said. ?Me and coach Cross and coach Brewster have a good relationship, but I?m a Buckeye. I?m happy with my decision. I wouldn?t have committed if I wasn?t [sure].?

I am not sure where to place this, but for the time being Mobley's thread seems as good as any.

This is like the Miami v Miami battle where the Miami (OH) people are offended that any sports score necessitates the (OH) considering the tag line of being a university before Florida was a state.

The lifelong Minnesotans with whom I have spoken claim that Minnesota has been known as "The U" (as least up here) longer than Miami has. These guys claim to have recognized the The U as the University of Minnesota going back to at least the 50's.

At the height of his recruitment, Eden Prairie senior Willie Mobley received 80 text messages a day from college coaches, media members and recruiting analysts.

"Every day I had to delete my inbox because it got so full," he said.

Those three brought star power to a state not known nationally for its football prowess.

"It's big to us," Mobley said. "I think Minnesota football is very underrated. We have a lot of good players and teams here

Not for Mobley, who admits he enjoys the recruiting meat grinder. While many recruits eventually tire of the time demands, Mobley embraces it. He is friendly almost to a fault, the kind of guy who meets a stranger and finds a friend. He is the recruiting version of Minnesota Nice.

"I never think I'm better than anyone else or anything like that," he said. "I just like the fact that you get to know different people across the country and get to learn about different schools. I got a lot of new friends out of this situation."

At 6-3 and 265 pounds, Mobley is a talented big man with a soft side, a self-described "mama's boy with crazy hair." He will likely play rush end in college initially but could bulk up to become a defensive tackle. He said Ohio State coaches have even mentioned using him at fullback in situations.

"I don't know if they were just kidding me," he said, laughing. "But I'm a defensive guy."

Mike Farrell is a Rivals.com national recruiting analyst. His take on the top three in-state football recruits:

Willie Mobley: Good pass rusher who could grow into an inside guy at Ohio State because he lacks great height and long arms. I could see him putting on 30 pounds and playing tackle for them or strongside end. Has very good upside, just needs to work on being more consistent.

Kind of interesting. We may be kind of thin at fullback next year with all three fullbacks (Johnson, Whaley, and Robinson) listed on the depth chart gone.

I think the addition of Martin solidifies Mobley's spot on the DL.

I don't know about that, according to scout.com Martin is listed as only 215 lbs. If I had to guess I would say Martin will be red shirting this year to bulk up. Martin may very well be "the fullback of the future", but not necessarily "the fullback" for 2008.

IMHO, they may play him at two positions (DE and FB). Willie Mobley may not be able to crack the starting lineup at DE as a true freshman in 2008; however, he could still get meaningfull/significant playing time as a fullback.

BP has him listed at 230. Plus, with the amount of big speed guys we are targeting for next year's class, I really doubt the staff would offer a "project" fullback. I also think next year's offense may resemble the offense of '06 (less use of the fullback). IMO, if Mobley sees the field at fullback, it will only be in goal line or short distance packages.

This whole biz of him being considered at FB is an enigma wrapped in a mystery to me. I'm guessing Willie must have a pretty good burst for him to be considered such a strong DE candidate, especially considering that, if memory serves me correctly, the boys at BN were not all that impressed w/his physique, said he was a bit soft, as I recall.

If JT/staff are considering him at FB as well as the DL, then he may be having to bulk down or at the very least, muscle-up from his 260 or so at what, 6-2'. If he is a fast as I'm thinking he must be, then losing some weight might/would increase his overall speed, but at his height and less weight, would he still be prime DL material?

Came back to edit this, let me also say that I imagine his overall gamesmanship must be world class and his attitude is second to none, considering that, if memory serves, he said that he would be willing to play anywhere needed to help out the team! I really expect great things here where ever he may contribute from. Glad he is getting his buckeye on!!
