That was the encouraging thing about TP. He went through his reads, and hit Brandon because the primary receiver(s) were not open. Very impressive for a Freshman.

bingo. Gotta love a TE playing FB, That might help his hands and be a great last option for Pryor to use, like he did. That was another thing Pryor did that was amazing by using Smith

The staff has made me scratch my head a lot in this young season, but one coaching decision that has worked out is Smith at fullback. I'd like to see him get a couple of carries. I'd rather have Smith than a few of the FBs I've seen in the NFL this year.

+1 Loved seeing this too. Was great that those plays turned out well too, may be enough to keep some of the pressure off the guys trying to get down field. Open up some lanes for TP. Good hands, great job Brandon. ![]() |

What I really enjoyed seeing this week against Troy was, not just that Brandon caught some passes (which is unheard of in Ohio State football these days), but that he caught them focused on the catch, and then fought for extra yardage. In other words, he didn't see himself as the last option for TP, he wanted the first down.
Very refreshing after a couple years of limited TE/FB action, and when they did get the ball generally just ran out of bounds or went down like Lydell Ross in a tackling drill. |

Let's give it up for Brandon. He has been terrific this year as a fullback/H-back. Always brings it.

BN$--Bucknuts TV: Brandon Smith
Brandon discusses the team refocusing after USC and getting better every week. He also talks about his contributions this year. Brandon also calls the Boom Herron hit "just football" but not really necessary. However, he says tOSU D guys say they would have taken the same shot. |

Brandon had another excellent game Saturday! Great job, Brandon. This kid has really gotten better and is now a real weapon for this offense. We need to get him the ball even more. He has quickly become one of my favorite players to watch this year. I think he could definitely play in the pros.

Physically speaking, Smith is a resembles a small tank rumbling down the field. I know there is a lot of NFL talent on this squad, but Brandon Smith looks and plays like a pro. He's no nonsense when he blocks or runs with the ball. I thought for sure he was taking that pass for a TD. |

I'm really happy to see Brandon get some action. He has waited his turn and he is being rewarded for it. Great game last week Brandon.

Smith reminds me of Kellen Freeman-Davis, who played TE for MSU last year and is now with the Bears. Not quite as tall as Kellen.
He caught a few more passes, was a decent blocker, and sometimes Dantonio would put him in at DE. Very similar, although Brandon might have more quickness. Not flat out speed but better foot work. I agree that there is a place for him in the NFL, as he could help out in several positions in the O and also ST. Solid guy, glad he's getting his chance to make a difference. |

I'm not surprised in the slightest that Brandon Smith is doing so well. Players like Smith, who have to pay their dues to get their playing time, always excel. He is benefiting from the fact that Pryor knows that his checkdown will be open. I really hope Tressel doesn't coach that tendency out of Pryor, because I really think that Brandon Smith is only the first in a long line of Buckeye fullbacks that can catch a pass and run with it.
Great job Brandon. You should almost certainly have a spot in the pros. In fact, I think you have Pittsburgh Steeler written all over you. |
