Underwood was supposed to start in 2002
Whittner was supposed to start in 2003
I have a feeling Ginn will not be a starter at corner in 2004 although I do believe he will be returning kicks.

The Bucks won't have any problems putting a stud in at the # 2 Corner, be it Underwood, Whitner, Ginn, etc.

The biggest hole I'd like to see Ginn fill is punt/kick returner. We need an electric playmaker in that role in the worst way, & we haven't had one in a long time.

I would play Ginn as my primary KR and hope for a couple of trips to the house this coming season ..

Buckeye Sticker

well, with the safties set with Salley and Whitner and the corners either being Youbouty or Underwood on one side and Fox entrenched on the other side, I see Ginn as being the nickel corner and giving them a breather now and then, but I guarantee he will be returning punts and kicks this year, that kid has that extra gear and Ohio State really needs to improve their return teams from last year, I think we were almost ranked last in the country in both areas. If this happens then our corners will have to be the best in the big ten because Ginn is really a special player.

IMO Fox stays at corner. Ginn Jr. is a SP player, and maybe gets time in a dime package or blowouts... I don't see a true Freshman starting at CB, no matter how good he is.

OSU did start a true Frosh at CB two years ago. His name was Underwood. It didn't work out, led to the Gamble move, and proved your point about how difficult that is to do. It was also a tribute to how much the coaches think of EJ. (It was also a very different situation talent-wise than we are in now.)

Here is my take. Underwood will start, but he Youboty will rotate very often, keeping both fresh. Fox on the other side, maybe rotate with Ginn, if he earns it. Whitner and Salley are the best 2 safteys on this team, so they are starters unless injured. Not sure who they put in Nickle. Depends on if they go with a corner or saftey. Corner would be Youboty/Underwood, maybe Ginn. If a saftey was called, i would think it would be Mitchell,

Underwood did not start the season, McNutt did. But then McNutt's ankle flared back up and EJ was the next guy in line.

Ginn will see a lot of action as a true freshman - nickel back, return man, and "secret weapon" on offense (where he can be a threat to run, catch, or throw). I doubt very much if he will start at CB at any point during the year.

osu Ginn Like Woodson?

Here is a quote from SI.com with some comments about two Ohio HS players:

"Come on, Stewart. Show some love and print my question. What super freshman are you expecting to impress us this fall?
--Benjamin, San Francisco

Consider the love shown. It's always hard to tell which of the highest-profile freshmen will actually see significant time, but the guys I'm most excited to see, in no particular order, are: Ohio State defensive back Ted Ginn, a Charles Woodson type who may struggle to crack the Buckeyes' deep secondary but could make an instant impact as a return man; Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson, who could push Kejuan Jones for the starting job; USC receiver Fred Davis, who already went through spring practice with the Trojans; LSU receivers Early Doucet and Xavier Carter, at least one of whom will be counted on to contribute; and Miami linebacker Willie Williams -- for obvious reasons."

What's everybodys' comments about Ginn? I have to admit it should be exciting to see him on the field. Here is a previous entry I posted that is eerily similar:

It would be great for him to perform at that level.

Ginn's first impact will be on special teams, then offense as a "secret weapon" type - think Michael Wiley, who could score running, receiving, or throwing. Ginn will see some duty at CB this fall, then probably start there next year. Remember, CB is a tough position to learn, and a difficult one to become accustomed to mentally (i.e., a good CB needs a short memory, because he will often get burned). If you remember, Antoine Winfield began his career as a nickel back, and seemed to get beat constantly. By the time he was a senior, he was the best CB in the nation, and became a first round draft pick. So, don't expect Teddy to come in right away and tear it up at corner. Wait a year, or two, and then watch him become the next Buckeye great at that position (following in the foot steps of Springs, Winfield, Plummer, Clements, and Gamble ... and Fox, for all of his sympathizers).

when did Woodson not play with class while at scUM? I think you're confusing him with that punk DBoston.
