right, because there is no chance the d line will get any better. in fact, without ginn there is no chance anyone on d will get any better.

you guys are making a whole lot of assumptions with a whole lot of time left for things to change. the ginn madness is boiling over to the level smith madness was before zwick got hurt. according to one of you, if only we had started ginn on d at the beggining of the year we would be playing for a national championship right now...

i don't deny the guys abilities. nor do i deny the fact that i to very much would like to see what he can do on defense. but i think many of you are setting yourselfs up for a considerable amount of dissapointment.

One of the biggest things that we have to do is consider conditioning. It was always said that Chris would play more receiver his Junior year as the season went on and he was "conditioned" for it.

I will argue that Ginn is already or will be in condition to play both ways by next Fall. I am not saying that he will split out each down, as he will need to rest. However, he is a better athlete than Gamble and his own father said that Tress. needs to work him harder. That he isn't in "shape" yet.

People talk about the fact that he could be missing scores on offense if he is on defense full time. We have to consider the fact that he will pick balls off and run them back. He will be returning punts and kickoffs next year and will play offense when he is needed; if of course he moves over to d full time!

I assume you meant to say "Unless we put solid guys in the secondary...". As for your statement "the '05 defensive line will be nowhere near as good as that '02 line", too bad you missed The Game...the DL played an excellent game. While they may not end up being quite the equivilent of our 2002 DL next season, they are not going to be weak by any stretch. We have 3/4 of our starting secondary returning, and Youboty is going to be as good next year as Gamble was in 2002. I think one of the other corners will end up being as good as Fox has been when Fox was healthy. We also have our entire starting LB corps back, which includes an AA and a potential Butkus Award winner. Our defense is going to rock next year.

Napes, how many picks would you expect him to return for TDs? What's the NCAA record for a season...four? Now, don't yopu think he'll score way more than four TDs when he's full-time offense, especially now that he's over his early-season struggles with learning pass routes? There is no way he can contribute more on defense than he can on offense.

I saw a missed call, and that was a blatant block in the back on Hart's long screen pass run in the first quarter. Other than that, the refs were excellent.

Totally agree...there is no way he could score that many of d then if he was on O. The problem is that OSU is going to put him where they best think he fits. We know he will play on O and return punts and kicks. We know he will score in all three categories. What scares me is him moving to d full time and then him only being used "situationally" on offense.

I would keep him at receiver and let someone else play the other corner. But I am not Tress or Tucker and you know that if EJ is gone that he will rep over there. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Maybe a better question is......could he play both sides almost all of the time as well as special teams? He did it in HS, I did it in HS but we all know the difference from HS to college. Maybe just maybe he is special enough to pull it off.

I think the best way to use him is full-time offense, returning both punts and kickoffs, and in nickle/dime packages on defense. Imagine having Ginn roaming free in the secondary in nickle/dime situations to break on the ball as needed without having to be locked onto one receiver...

Agreed. Our other corners are better than average and TG can help them. Let's try to keep him out of run support until he puts on another 20 lbs.

I think the pass interference call on 3rd down before scUM's 3rd TD was bogus, but other than that, yes, they did a very good job.....

We've got good players out there...but they can be beaten. Especially on the road.

Yes, I watched The Game. I saw a defense that played their hearts out. I saw a stadium that was absolutely rocking, and our D rising to the occasion. I saw Michigan getting rattled.

Do you guys expect this to happen EVERY GAME next year???????

I don't want a good defense that can play great at times (which is what we'll have next year without ginn). I want a GREAT defense, like the '96 and '02 units. What happened in '02? We won the national championship. What happened in '96? We would've won the national championship if not for John Cooper.

I like our defensive line. But they are far from dominant. How many times, during the course of the year, were we able to get to the quarterback with just a 4 man rush? It was few and far in between. Will they improve? Of course. But it is silly to expect incredible improvement in just one year. If anybody thinks that this line can be as good as the '02 line, they are crazy.

Youboty is very good. But he can be beaten. Whoever steps up to replace Fox, they will hopefully be pretty good. But they will get beaten also.

What were you guys watching this year? Marshall rolled up yards on us. We couldn't stop Northwestern at all. Wisconsin scored TDs in the red zone. Iowa totally dominated us. Michigan St. rolled up something like well over 400 yds I believe. Purdue obliterated us for a half, then stormed down the field for the winning TD. Our D played its best game of the year against Michigan, and they still gave up 21 pts.

Next year, we will have a good defense that can be beat. With Ginn, we have a championship defense. On offense, even with Ginn, we won't have a championship offense.

Everyone's problem is that they are looking at the michigan game and assuming that every game next year will play out in the exact same way. Troy Smith will not be on fire every game. Our D will not be playing with ridiculous intensity every game. The Horseshoe will not be rocking every game. Teams will not be kicking to Ginn every game.

Next year, we have the opportunity to rely on a championship defense. Our D will NOT rock next year without ginn. Look, I love all of those guys to death and they are all good players. But without Teddy, it will be a slightly better version of this year's. Do you guys want that? Do you expect to run the table with that defense?

Ginn doesn't have to score any TDs on defense. I don't really care if this causes him to lose the Heisman, and I don't think he'll care, either.

If teams want to line up and run against us, we'll just put 8 in the box. We won't need that safety to help out on Ginn. We'll stuff the run.

If teams want to spread it out and pass against us, again, we'll just double up on their 2nd and 3rd best receivers. With Ginn totally shutting down their top guy, they will be forced to rely on their 4th and 5th options. This won't get them far.

Without ginn, we are in trouble. If a strong team wants to grind out first downs against us, they'll be able to do it. If a team with talented WRs and a hot QB wants to pass againt us, they'll be able to do it, despite how good Youboty and the rest of the secondary might be. Without ginn on D, if the other QB is hot and troy is having a bad day (and considering that we probably won't have a running game and all the pressure will be on troy to produce...the odds of him being cold once in a while are pretty high)....WE WILL LOSE. GOODBYE, NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

With ginn on D, our defense will consistently dominate. Our offense won't have to do much to win. And if, for whatever reason, we are struggling....put Ginn at WR!!!! He can handle going both ways for a quarter or two.

There is a difference between a good defense and a GREAT defense. Ted Ginn Junior is that difference. Shut-down corners are rare. VERY, VERY RARE. We need to take advantage of the one we've got. He will still get plenty of touches on offense, believe me.
