Keith Wells Defensive end Gainesville, Georgia Height: 6-foot-5 Weight: 225 pounds Forty: 4.8 seconds Shuttle: 4.53 seconds Bench max: 260 pounds Squat max: 350 pounds Vertical: 33 inches 2006 stats: 60 tackles, 10 sacks Class: 2008 (High School) Scout profile Many offers from southern schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Miami, Georgia Tech, Lousiville, North Carolina, South Carolina. From the same school as former Buckeye recruit and 2007 Georgia Tech signee Nic Claytor. OSU Scout - Bill Greene - 05/02/07 Offered by Ohio State. Coach Fickell visited his school today and delivered the offer. My take: He expressed interest in the Buckeyes, but just look at that offer list - the who's who of southern football powers. One to keep an eye on, especially if he schedules an official visit to Columbus. Last edited by LordJeffBuck; 05-21-2007 at 01:53 PM. |

I'm going with "official offer" for now. Fickell supposedly delivered it in person, and Bill Greene is usually dead on with his info.

Personally, I don't think offers being sent out in April and May have much to do with how the staff feels about other players on their board. Over on Scout, as soon as an offer goes out people are on there asking Bob, Greg and nevada if this means that the staff does not feel good about their chances with someone else. I don't think that is the case, especially in May...if the staff deems a kid worthy of an offer, even if it is a token offer, then they are going to offer. People assume that Nathan Williams got an offer because the staff did not feel confident about Koger. Why would the staff continue to recruit Koger then (seeing as though JT was at his school the other day) knowing that the minute they offered Nathan he would accept? It just doesn't make sense.
Now as for the other theories put forth by my colleague crazybuckfan40, these recent offers may be more a reflection of the staff's feelings about the current production we are getting out of our DEs. I know the staff is preparing for all scenarios, but it is tough to determine whether or not Gholston is a flight risk at this point. He could get hurt tomorrow and miss his entire junior season (knock on wood). |

Well, we've done well with Wellses in the past (Jonathan, Maurice, Beanie), so I guess that the offer makes sense.

Keith has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Boston College, Florida, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami (Fla.), Mississippi State, North Carolina, Ohio State, South Carolina and Central Florida. He does say the in-state schools are longtime favorites but he is looking at the best options for his career. |

Georgia DE Has USC Among Favorites By Phil Kornblut DE Keith Wells (6-5 220) of Gainesville, GA lists USCarolina among his top five right now along with Ohio State, Florida, Georgia Tech and Alabama. He also has offers from Boston College, North Carolina,Marshall, Louisville, Miami, Auburn, Mississippi State and Central Florida. And he is hearing from Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Florida State and Notre Dame. Wells said he gets a lot of text messages and mail from USC recruiter Shane Beamer. He went to a Clemson scrimmage during the spring and attend junior days at Georgia and Georgia Tech. And he took an unofficial visit to North Carolina. Wells said he will take an unofficial visit to Ohio State this summer and make camp stops at Florida, Georgia and possibly North Carolina. He said he will try to visit this summer all the schools which have offered that are within reasonable driving distance. Wells is being moved to outside linebacker this season. "My strengths are using my hands and I'm very fast for the position I play," he said. "I have the mentality where no one can stop me, no one can lock me." Wells said he had about 60 tackles and 10 sacks last season. |
