From Napoleon to No. 1-ranked Buckeyes: Dye no longer a walk-on at OSU
By BRUCE HEFFLINGER
hefflinger@crescent-news.com
COLUMBUS -- What a past month it's been for Dan Dye.
From walk-on to scholarship player, from a top 20 team in the nation to No. 1, from watching on the sidelines to getting in every game. The 2003 Napoleon graduate has been enjoying life as a fifth-year senior with the Buckeyes of Ohio State, the top-ranked college football team in the land this week.
"Dan is living proof that if you have a goal or a dream, and you truly want it and are willing to work and sacrifice for it, you can achieve it," said his high school football coach, John Snoad. "Dan did this all by himself. This was his goal since he was very young."

napoleon
I had the occassion to watch the purdue game in Napoleon, at rick's Sports Bar. Great place, esp. for a small town. Just like having a Frickers, or a little Champs right in the middle of this great, clean little town. And they are Buckeye lovers there, that's for sure. A few doors away, Spengler's restaurant had a big screen set up in the alley way, but it was a little cool for me, so we went with Rick's.
I didn't realize there was a Napoleon player playing - no one really said anything - but I'm sure they are proud of him in Napoleon.
Good work, Mr. Dye.
Go Bucks!
Just win, baby!!!

Former walk-on from Napoleon winds up in national title game
By MATT MARKEY
BLADE SPORTS WRITER
NEW ORLEANS - Dan Dye was one of those kids who gazed out the window during high school study hall, for just a moment, and saw himself going to battle in scarlet and gray. He was either leading a sweep around end for a first down, punching an opening for his running back, or restraining the opposition while a game-winning field goal split the uprights. Maybe it was a vision, an apparition, or a figment of the imagination - but don't call it a dream. Dye was awake, he was alert, and the image he saw was in vivid, living color. "I thought about that a lot, just how neat it would be to somehow be part of Ohio State's great tradition," Dye said. "Maybe calling it a dream isn't right. It was just something I planned on doing." For Dan Dye, poised on the Ohio State sideline tonight in the Louisiana Superdome, this is his rewarding reality. He will play for the No. 1 team in the country in the BCS national championship game because he could never picture himself playing for anybody else.

Very proud of him. Being from this area of northwest Ohio not alot of kids make ro to big time programs. He worked as hard as he could to earn something that only a select few ever have the chance at. Congrats Dan. Good Luck tonight Bucks, bring it back to Ohio!
