USC has not produced a significant RB since Charles White. In the interim, OSU has produced:
Tim Spencer Keith Byars Robert Smith Eddie George Maurice Clarett Those are the great ones. Some pretty good ones include: Carlos Snow Jonathan Wells Raymont Harris I would LOVE to hear Ol' Pete's spin on that. |

Florida State has now offered and they have told Maurice if he commits they won't recruit another RB in this class. I worry the USC's and Florida State's of the world are going to make him promises we just won't. If that ends up being the difference, so be it.

Wells needs to read this article. Don't you just love Davis and his willingness to BLOCK. LOL!!! Gee, how will USC spin this for a great RB?

Interesting comments and the implication that their offense is a passing one and not interested in the running game. I still think USC will be very good the next few years, but I think they are approaching the level of great individual players, but not necessarily great team players. I will watch his career at USC, but am not upset that he is not a Buckeye.

I have been ambivalent about FD for awhile, until I read the article, specifically his comment
"I went to Ohio State games and I really thought they were boring," Davis said. "I kind of fell asleep. Their offense makes you fall asleep." Anyone who goes to an OSU game and thinks it is boring is not quite right! I am so happy that he is out west and not at OSU with an attitude that smacks of style over substance. Hopefully, an OSU v USC game comes about while FD is there so when he gets hammered by Salley, it will awaken him. I hope Maurice Wells reads this article closely to see what type of teammate he can expect with FD. |

FD must be in the media lime light... after reading that, I'm glad he didn't come here... sure he will be a good one one the field, however he will need to be closely watched off it (esp. when talking to the media).
FSU scares me more that USC for Wells, they are an instate program, and if they really made that promise, that is something OSU will not match IMO... hopefully he sees past that, and takes the road that if he is that good, it doesn't matter if another RB is in his class... is bowden telling the kid they didn't get a good RB last year, nor will take a good one next year??? I'm sure cryami and UF will also offer, IMO this will be a dog fight to get him out of the south... heck, Auburn might come into the action and offer to pay him for his services (kind of a joke, but if the rumors are true... not a joke)... |

I think what the coaches need to be banking on for this recruiting season should be a more explosive offense on the field this year. I believe they understand that to land these big names and OOS players they need to see some type of production and variation in our offense. I don't think we will see a 45 PPG average but we really need to see the balanced attack and look for the yards per game average to jump up. I think if we see that this season we will see a few of these big names sign with tOSU of NLOISD next year, Wells included.

nixon - I see where you are coming from, but a balanced attack is good for both WR's and RB's. A RB won't be too effective if a team runs every down as the defense will put 9 in the box and stop the running game. In the article on one of the first posts on this thread, the hs team that Wells was playing against put 9 in the box in the second half of that game and held him in check the second half.

Exactly Bucki, We need to try and keep the defense honest and that will open up the run. Last year we saw what happens when you let the team put 9 in the box. It was not pretty most of the time. Besides, a balanced offense is just appealing to every position. I think it assures more touches for everyone involved when you now you can run and throw the ball evenly.
