Nate could be in some roster trouble because of injury issues...

Wesley is still a good bet to make the roster, since he's one of the team's top special teams players. Coupled with the perpetually troubled knees of reserve safety Nate Salley, it lends some experience to the middle

SECOND OPINION FOR SALLEY ? Safety Nate Salley, firmly on the roster bubble this year, spent the last two days getting a second opinion on his sore right knee.

He was back on the sidelines Wednesday, but hasn't practiced since Aug. 7.

The Panthers need him healthy one way or another. He's due to make $1.01 million this year, and if they cut him that salary slot would go a long way toward acquiring the defensive tackle they need. If he's not well, that's a heavy charge for a non-producer.

Salley, their fourth-round pick in 2006, has been a special teams player throughout, and only played 16 games once (last season).

Salley placed on I.R.

The Panthers placed safety Nate Salley on injured reserve today after releasing rookie defensive tackle Lonnie Harvey. That brings the team's roster down to the required 75 players. They will release 22 more on Saturday to get to their roster down to 53 players for the regular season.

Salley injured his knee in training camp and hasn't practiced for several days.

Not sure, but......does being placed on IR means that Nate cannot suit up for any of the season? Even when cleared by the doc? And that also means that he receives his full salary (plus medical)?

So in essence, he is still a member of the team, gets paid, and maybe more importantly, a year to rehab and recoup his strength. Or am I missing something here? (Hope not for his sake).

Waived from IR

If I remember right if no one picks him up when he's waived on the IR, which is pretty much the norm most teams don't pick up people on the IR, he goes back to the team that waived him and on the IR so no loss on his part.
