The past two weeks have been very bad for passing the ball. They have also faced very stingy defenses.

Having already faced two impressive QB performances (Wisconsin & Iowa) and being torched, OSU should be respectfully concerned approaching a game against Orton (if he's healthy).

To assume that they won't come to play because of three straight losses pretty much contradicts everything else we are hopeful about for OSU in this forum.

Purdue's receivers can be shut down by aggressive DB play (e.g. scUM) - so if Youboty can't do the same (when man coverage is called) then maybe he's not where we think he is yet.

It's one thing to defend a receiver when there is no QB to deliver the ball (e.g. NCST, PSU), it'a another when you have perhaps the conference's best QB throwing strikes.

I like that he has stepped up and taken away E.J.'s starting spot, and I'm hoping that the Purdue game will be a sign of more good things to come in the future for Ashton's 'shutdown' ability.

Let's not forget Fox. He'll cover Stubblefield....and for the most part shut him down.

Keep in mind that Orton is quite shaken up (see Purdue's coach's comments).

He'll still be effective at times, but unless northwestern falls apart (which I doubt they will), we will not be palying the same confident orton that started this year off hot playing against pansy teams.

All I can say is it must be the system which I don't understand, so osugrad you are right, because I have not been very impressed with him eithter. He is improving and did make some good plays, closed on some routes, and is working hard, but he alo has been beaten badly a few times, and the QB just made a poor throw.

He also most of the time is playing way off the reciever, where Fox is playing much closer to them. As much as it pains me to admidt it, right now Fox is playing as good at CB as Gamble did last year, maybe a little better.

Who I was very impressed with was Everrett I think that a Everett, Whitner safety combo would be fun to see.

It's been all Orton. I'd be frightened if he had a Santonio Holmes or Teddy Ginn to work with. I can do a decent job on Taylor Stubblefield. Stubbs can run routes and such as well as anyone--but he won't out-athlete any Buckeyes in the secondary, that's for sure.

One of the coaches needs to pull their head out of Salley's ass, in order for that combo to happen. I do think that that combo with Underwood at the nickel would be the most effective, for the remainder of the year. Especially with us playing two spread teams in the next two games.

I actually think that the performance of our young db's ,this week, can be attributed to someone(not sure who) actually finding the map to the film room, and gameplanning an offense. Those guys knew where the ball was being thrown before the QB did.

As a true freshman, Tedd Ginn is not a priority on offense. I wish that he worked out at DB. He was the #1 HS db coming out of HS.

Yes, we've had 12 INTs this year. The statistic for our pass defense that stands out to me is the 9.87 Yrds/Comp rate (not to be confused with Yrds/Attmpt). OSU is the only D1A school in the country with a Yrds/Comp rate not in the double digits. Pick your poison, either its proof that its a good scheme to play soft zone and keep the play in front, or it is evidence that teams have no problem nickel-and-dime'ing us to death.

The numbers are skewed a little bit because we've also got one of the highest numbers of pass plays against in the nation (341) while the national average is ~250. Our poor tackling on 3rd down and our winded defense having to play 45 minutes every game is killing us.

As much as I love Dustin Fox (one of the most underrated Buckeyes ever) I can't wait to see Youboty, Ginn Jr, and O'Neil in the backfield next year. With the depth at DB and the LBs, our secondary is going to be vicious.
