osu OL Steve Rehring (official thread)

is it just me or does he seem to be doing very well out there. i've been making up point of watching him and when he;s in there the running game seems to get better. he is just driving guys out like its nobody's business. At 6'8 and 300+ the kid is an absolute beast. Can't wait til we have him and Boone as our 6'8 bookends down the road!

I thought Rehring and D. Johnson at FB really helped the running game today. Not to mention Pittman is a stud...

The few times I focused on Rehring today I thought he looked good. With his size and strength run blocking should not be a problem. It was so nice to see so many young guys get PT today. I thought all the freshmen looked good.

no doubt rehrig has come a long way. he struggled in spring ball but he was only on campus what a month. now that early arrival seems to be paying off.

steve played well, some real good wall blocks and some good man up blocks, as for dionte i was not impressed, he ended up on his ass on more than enough plays. he got hammered back into pittman two or three times, but he is young and seems to be playing good either blowing some one up or gettin blown up

OL Steve Rehring (official thread)

First off let me say that this guy is a complete bad ass.

This guy could very easily be the best offensive lineman we have had since LeChales Bentley as a Freshman. Sure he has made some freshman mistakes, but it has become clear that he is the type of player that you can run behind to get 3-4 yards a carry.

I was thrilled to see that Mo Hall was playing as well as he did this season. I still don't understand why Ross has been playing when Hall has looked this good, and Pittman has looked strong. But with that said Rehring seems to me to be a big part of why these guys are looking better. I wish I had tape of what I saw during the game to watch, and make sure I was seeing it right, but he was dominating the man across from him, every play it seemed. His pass blocking was pretty good, and he looks to be a mountain of a man. I don't understand why he didn't play sooner, but he may save Bollman's job, although I hope not.

Moving Sims to Guard on that side also seems to help because the whole left side is strong. I also like the Leadership I see from Sims, not to say he is the only one, but I see him tutoring and talking to Rehring after every play when I was watching that.

We still are not a great line, but this kid is great and hopefully by scUM he will be even better.

Nice post. I have to agree 100%. Rehring is a bad ass OT. I'm excited to see him get some PT vs. Mich St, Purdue and Michigan. He has a chance to solidfy a starting spot for many years to come.

The sick thing is Rehring was the least heralded of the offensive line recruits from last year! And the talent coming in next year is suppose to be even better.

We just have to remember that the offensive line pipeline was dry when Tressel came and had no depth. The guys that started this year, no offense to them are a transition class. Mangold is nice, Sims is ok... but besides that these guys should be backups.

I still see 3 new starters on the O-Line next year and would not be surprised that one is a true frosh. The pipeline has been restocked... it just needs to get the OSU Strength & Conditioning added muscle and experience.

Rehring seems to be the "AJ Hawk" of his O-Line recruiting class, i.e. not the highly recruited, blue-chipper...almost an afterthought compared to the other kids at his position and labeled a "project" player by most of the recruiting "experts". A lot they know. Go Steve! It's great to see a kid come early, work his butt off and prove some of the talking heads wrong.

Rehring will be a beast. IMO Bollman is done at OSU. Maybe we should get a vbet on that. They dropped what Bollman had them doing before and are now going after the defenders and getting some push. If you watch the Iowa or Wisconson game, and the the PSU game, you will see then difference (especially on running plays). The oline is headed in the right direction finally.

I want Bollman Fired because I believe that his coaching is maybe too focused on technique and not enough on kicking ass. It may not be the case but as an outside observer it appears that players are overly focused on technique which causes them to play tentative, by playing tentative, the Defense runs all over them. They look confussed out there, like they don't know what their doing, and certainly like they don't know what going wrong.

Freshman have come in like Mangold, and Sims, and now Rehring that look great. Then in the cases of Mangold and Sims, they have regressed. The last two years they have not looked as aggressive, and generally that is when you are thinking about something other than burring the guy in front of you. My theory on why the Freshman have played well is because they don't know the technique as well so they do what they know which is kill the guy in front of them. You can't move someone out of a hole with technique alone. At some point you must decide to be a bad ass and bury the guy. I do not see this attitude from our line. It is not one kid, or just last years O-Line. It has been consistant the more he is around these kids, the worse they seem to perform.

It simply must be coaching. Whether or not it is over emphasis on technique I am unsure, but it must be something that makes these players get more sheepish as their time wears on.

What happens if Bollman is fired, or leaves, and the problems continue on the o-line?
