Sounds like the Purdue game to me, Mili. Well before Holy Buckeye, but a crucial play in that game.

Fox also practically never got beat deep, which is a rather important factor for a corner.

I don't recall us losing to scUM because of Fox slipping and I'd put him up there with Plummer and Clements.

Dustin Fox is an incredible athlete and was well suited to the boundary corner, but he's gone.

However our defensive backfield shakes out, I love it. Whitner or Everett moving to boundary corner. The other staying at safety. Salley and Youbouty are set. Add Sirjo as the nickel back and this is one helluva defensive backfield. Oh, and should we mention they're playing behind the best LBs in the nation? Oh, and the D-Line is also coming along nicely--talented and deep. This could be the best defense in the nation.

Fox also had a pretty good leap for an interception in the Texas Tech game in 2002. However, his leap to tip the Purdue field goal in 2003 was one of the biggest jumps I've ever seen. I'll look for the pic.

By the way, I'd say he was a "play maker" on those two plays.

The INT against Tech turned a potentially close, back and forth game into a blowout. It was all OSU after that play. It's also worth bringing up that Fox had a 2nd half pick against Miami. Tipped ball or not, he was still in the right place at the right time.

I've heard coaches say, on more than one occasion, that Fox was the surest tackler on the team. "Play maker" or not, he was a damn good player. He will be missed.

Not to take this further off the "Whitner at Corner" topic, but I found the Fox leap to tip the Purdue FG...

By the way, I've never attached a picture, so bear with me.

What is his vertical in that picture? I bet he is at least 40-44 inches off the ground. Incredible!!!!!

I think Will Smith is 6'5" (two to the left) and Fox's feet are at his waste...and he's now crouching down very much. I'm 6'5" and I have a 38 inch inseem. Add on a few inches for my foot, and a few more because Fox is past his inseem, and that would make him 42-44 inches in the air!

As far as Whitner goes, I remember posting on Bucknuts about the decision to move him to Safety his freshman year. I didn't like it then, and it seems like it's a mistake now. I've always been a big believer in Corner's make a bigger impact on a game. They may not make the tackles or interceptions, but they change the offensive strategy much more effectively than a good safety. I would rather have 2 all-world corners than 2 all-world safeties.

By the way, I'm not ragging on safeties or Doss or Salley or anything like that.

How come everytime we talk about corner someone has to pull a Dustin Fox out his ass? (sorry for the cheap Coming to America spoof). He's graduated so let it be. On that note I think we see a variety of players at corner until JT settles on one during midseason, me thinks it may be Oneal.

Let what be? We were discussing his awesome leaping and playmaking abilities.

As far as JamO goes, I'm not banking on a true freshman earning a starting corner spot. At least not early in the year. Think about it, Ginn didn't see much playing time at all (let alone starting) until mid season. So on that note, I agree that midseason is the earliest we'll see a lot of O'Neal.
