Hartline had a good track day yesterday

NORTH CANTON — A slight wave of the baton signaled the end of another successful day for Brian Hartline.

It came an instant after the GlenOak High School junior crossed the finish line in the 1,600-meter relay with yet another win. Hartline won three events Saturday in the Division I district track and field meet, helping GlenOak secure yet another team championship.

But soon after the baton wave and before the Golden Eagles accepted their championship trophy, Hartline was already looking ahead.

“Regionals and state are what matter now,” he said.

Making it to regionals by finishing among the top four was the focus for all the athletes at North Canton Memorial Stadium. Sixteen Stark County boys qualified for the Austintown Regional individually, while another 10 county relay teams advanced.

Hartline and McKinley’s Brad Jones (see related story) head to regionals as the only county boys with multiple individual titles.

Hartline won his third straight 300 hurdles district championship and second straight 110 hurdles title. He also anchored GlenOak’s 1,600 relay team to its second straight district win, and added a third title in the high jump.

“That’s great, and I’m very happy with that,” Hartline said. “But it’s only the beginning.”

Hartline’s attitude is a reflection of what GlenOak coach Scott Ferrell stresses to his team.

“This is just step two,” Ferrell said. “There are six steps to the championship.” Steps three and four come later this week during the two days of regionals. The final two come during the state meet in Columbus.

Hartline has earned all-state honors the last two years. He called his performances Saturday “decent.” He got more excited about his team, though.

GlenOak followed up last week’s second straight Federal League title by winning the district for the second straight year. The Eagles finished with 128 points, far ahead of second-place Wadsworth (79).

“That means more for me,” Hartline said. “To come out at districts and win says a lot about us.”

It's no mystery that Hartline wants a Buckeye offer pretty bad. He plans on camping in Columbus on two different days this summer and is going to do everything he can to get an offer. Certain other Ohio prospects would do well to follow his lead. I for one hope Hartline gets that offer.

Dustin Fox hosted GlenOak senior Brian Hartline during his trip to Columbus for Ohio State’s senior advance camp this weekend. Hartline is among more than 1,400 players at this camp. If Buckeye coaches are impressed, he could receive an offer from the team in the near future. OSU seems to be Hartline’s front-runner.

His brother, Mike, who is a year younger and will be a junior, attended the camp, too. Many college recruiting insiders expect Mike Hartline to be among the top three QBs in the state as a senior.

Great reports on Hartline from camp- he has been in C-bus all week working very hard to secure an offer- let's hope his wish comes true and he follows in the footsteps Fox (who is also from GlenOak)

I'm happy for Brian because he wanted to become a buckeye more than anything. If we offered his brother at the same time we would have a QB commit for 2006. When he commits this week it will be a nice pick-up for the buckeyes. Congrats Brian!!!

This kid is sweet. I saw him at camp and ive been very high on him ever since. He holds himself like hes 21 already. I cant wait for him to commit and i just cant wait til he gets on campus....i think he will make a big impact(bigger then expected)
