BSB did a write up the other day from one of the workouts and had this to say about Boeckman (paraphrasing):

showed nice zip and a strong arm on deep out passes. has a presence about him and stands tall in the pocket. He has a compact motion and gets rid of the ball in a hurry. he looked very comfortable.

i've heard that he has looked the most comfortable with the system of ALL the QB's, even Smith. with Troy possibly not being an option, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Todd get a lot of playing time, if not the starting nod. can you imagine the folklore this kid could create if he takes hold of the job and leads them to a win over Texas in really only his second game? that would be unbelieveable.

while i would be hesitant to put a RS Frosh in to start what is possibly the biggest ooc game to come to the shoe since ND, and possibly the 2nd bigget ooc game ever, he has been in the system for 3 years just as zwick and smith were last year.

honestly, as of now i dont see smith being ineligible for the texas game, so boeckman could start, but he would share duty.

I think that right there is the definition of a JT quarterback. If we have a QB that can throw in a hurry (TB has a cannon), we've got the receivers to make something happen. We shouldn't even have to worry about a QB that can create many plays with his feet with the talent that returns at WR.

I know a student intern coach and last year he said if he could choose he would be playing TB ahead of Zwick and Smith.

Question about Boekman: how is his mobility? Can he get out of the pocket/pressure easily?

I've envisioned him to be like Ben Roethlisberger-type player, is that a close comparision? or not?

I've only seen him in the spring game and that was a feed off the internet so I couldn't do much analyzing (as if I would know how to analyze in the first place). Suppose I should have one of the 2332054 replays of that game on CSTV.

But just curious if anyone knows more about him and his style? Doubt anyone could know too much (other than having a cannon) because hardly anyone has seen him play lately, being that not many get to attend practices.

Boeckman is what, 6'5" 235? That's great size. If he has the arm, the presence, and the pocket-comfort level needed, I'm looking forward to him getting a shot.

while Boeckman wouldn't be considered a dual-threat by any means, i'd put him somewhere above Zwick and Roethlisberger but below Krenzel as far as his mobility. thei kid is a superb athlete. he was all-state in 3 sports in H.S. i'm with Mili, i'm looking forward to him getting a shot if this rumor is true.

This may not be the place for this comment, but this is an unfair statement in my opinion. Troy Smith was suspended for 2 games. Not for any time in between the games. If this would have been found out before last season, he would have been suspended for the first two games and it would be almost an afterthought. We treat this as if he's been on probation this whole time. The punishment is no different because it was found out later in the game. I am concerned that he is problematic and has certainly exhausted a lot of my trust.

If Boeckman gives us the best chance to win the Miami game, I'm all for it. If whoever that plays quarterback can consistently deliver the ball to our playmakers, we'll be damn tough to beat. I have been impressed with his ability to stay tall in the pocket and deliver the ball. He doesn't have to make plays himself in this offense, that's just icing on the cake.

As far as I understand it, Troy Smith is not suspended for two games. He is suspended indefinitely but 2 games is the usual punishment...after the two games, he still has to apply for reinstatement by the NCAA.

This latest issue will affect that application

At least that is my comprehension of the situation...

May be the case but seems a little unfair then. I do know that his suspension has not effected his status on the team i.e. ability to practice, etc... I guess I find the issue with the NCAA then if they treat a suspension of two games that covers 14 days and a suspension of two games that covers 250 days the same. Seems like one case has much more of a "probationary period" than the other, even though the punishment is for the same crime. It is this "probationary period" idea that I take exception with because of the circumstances in this case (spanning into another season). Especially if you are going to let a very grey area, minute infraction have an effect on this status. One guy has over 200 more days to misinterpret one of thousands of rules, therefore effecting his punishment further. Could very well be the case though. Thanks for the explanation.

If this infraction would cause additional disciplinary action by the NCAA affecting his status if he was already reinstated, that's one thing. The punishment should be handed out taking that into account IMO.

But the NCAA will say it is a pattern...

I might be wrong but I think that is the scene right now.

Interesting, especially the Texas part.
I would venture to guess that means TS is going to miss the start, maybe a series or two.
I cant see this latest infraction garnering any more NCAA down time..
If TB is really better than JZ, whom I like as a QB, we are set.
