Butler's job includes shutting down top scorers
'I like challenges. If you don't like a challenge, you're not a player,' Ohio State junior says.

COLUMBUS ? Jamar Butler has become Ohio State's lead dog for defending opponents' scoring guards.
That's quite a change from high school, when he just dogged it.
"I played no defense," Butler said Tuesday at the Schottenstein Center. "I just shot the ball. That's all I did."

The Gatekeeper
Jim Naveau - 03.22.2007
COLUMBUS ? Ohio State was minutes from getting on the bus to head for the airport on Tuesday for its trip to San Antonio to play Tennessee in the Sweet 16 of the men?s NCAA basketball tournament tonight when a journey of another kind brought a smile to Jamar Butler?s face.
The junior guard from Shawnee High School emerged as one of the best backcourt defenders in the Big Ten last season and has raised his level of play at the defensive end even higher this season. It is a part of his game that was sometimes unexplored territory before he got to Ohio State, though.
?Honestly, in high school I played no defense. I just shot the ball,? Butler said, with a smile.

This young man comes up with a big shot when needed in crunch time. His overall game will only get better. He's my daughter's favorite tOSU player.
