BGSU Rallies for 8-7 Win Over Defiance Eric Lawson hits two-out, bases-loaded single for the win.

Bowling Green, Ohio - Freshman Eric Lawson's base hit to right field scored Jeff Warnock from third base for the game-winning run in a come-from-behind, 8-7 victory over Defiance Tuesday afternoon at Warren Steller Field. BGSU plated two runs in the bottom of the ninth to overcome a 7-6 deficit and post its third-straight victory.

Andy Hudak led off the bottom of the ninth with a double to right center and advanced to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Jimmy Lipari. Hudak then scored via a wild pitch from Eric Sprague to knot the game at 7-7.




After Jay Threet grounded out to the first baseman for the second out, Warnock laid down a bunt single to put the go-ahead run on base. Tyler Wasserman's ground ball was mishandled by the shortstop and Warnock moved up to third base. Both runners advanced on another wild pitch by Sprague followed by a walk to David Barkholz to load the bases for Lawson, who delivered with his second hit of the game.

Defiance scored first in the top of the fourth inning and BGSU responded with a run in the bottom of the frame with an RBI-single from Josh Dietz, scoring Nolan Reimold. BGSU added two more runs in the fifth inning for a 3-1 lead thanks to three walks, one passed ball, and a throwing error by the catcher.

The Yellow Jackets then plated three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 4-3 lead. BGSU responded with three runs in the bottom of the seventh, two from a single by Lipari and another on a Warnock RBI-single, for a 6-4 edge.

Defiance matched that with three runs of its own in the eighth inning for a 7-6 lead before BGSU scored the tying and game-winning runs in the ninth.

BGSU used five different pitchers with freshman Dan Horvath (1-1) earning his first collegiate victory by pitching the last 1.1 innings. He allowed no hits, no runs, no walks and struck out two. Greg Becker got the start for BGSU, allowing no runs and no hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

Sprague (2-7) suffered the loss. Warnock, Hudak and Lawson each had two hits apiece.

Defiance falls to 11-19 overall while BGSU improves to 22-11 overall. The Falcons travel to Ohio State on Wednesday, April 28, for a 6:35 p.m. contest at Bill Davis Stadium.

BGSU Notes...
* SO Nolan Reimold's seven-game hitting streak came to an end (0-for-3, two runs scored) vs. Defiance.

* JR Jimmy Lipari improved his hitting streak to seven games (1-for-1, one run, 2 RBIs). His season-best is nine games.

* FR Dan Horvath become the ninth different Falcon this season to earn a victory.

* Tuesday's victory was the second come-from-behind win in a row for the Falcons and third comeback victory in their last four wins.

This is no knock against Defiance but how good is BGSU really if they need to rally against a weak D-III school....

Defiance joined the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference in the spring of 2000.

As bad as we were, it was a downright disgrace if we lost to Defiance. They were our biggest rivals and definitely mine since I grew up right outside of Defiance.

I think this was a good win for the Bucks. BG was a solid 22-11 (level of competition nonwithstanding). 3900+? Great attendence! Maybe because it was Buck-a-Burger night!

Of course not, the weather was nice wasn't it? I'm never available if the Bucks are in town and the weather is good.

Penn St is my next best hope. I expect rain.

I'm pretty sure it was because it was Buck a Burger night. It wasn't like there were hordes of invaders from BG there to watch. They said they sold over 2000 burgers. That means I only consumed .1% of them...I definitely need to improve in this area
