He is regarded as one of the best QB in Cincinnati (for what its worth). I saw him play as a sophomore again the eventual state champs so he didn't look too impressive then, but he's a very solid high school QB from what I understand. Also, even though he's not from St. X (my alma mater) I still love to see GCL kids on the team. Next year we will have three (Posey, Schoenhoft, and Oltorick) including two QBs.

The Cathedral High School football team had no answer for Cincinnati Moeller senior quarterback Ross Oltorik and the Crusaders' potent offense.

Oltorik, who will play football and baseball at Ohio State next year, accounted for 412 yards of total offense and three touchdowns in Moeller's 31-14 victory over the Irish in Friday night's regular-season finale at Arlington High School.

"He was fantastic," Cathedral coach Jim O'Hara said of Oltorik. "We haven't faced somebody who can throw it and run it like he could all year. He's probably one of the best quarterbacks we've seen."

Oltorik finished 21-of-31 passing for 355 yards, and he added 57 yards rushing on nine carries.

Ross and Moeller are playing St. Ed's at Nippert Stadium right now on FSN Ohio. Moeller leads 21-0 at the end of the 1st Quarter. Ross has looked great disecting the St. Ed's defense, he has at least two TD passes, not sure how they got the third.

Moeller's Oltorik OSU-bound for baseball, football

Senior Ross Oltorik has been a standout athlete at Moeller for several years.

He's been the starting quarterback for the football team and one of the standouts on the baseball team.

Oltorik, of Sharonville, committed to play both sports next year at Ohio State.

Oltorik recently took some time to talk to The Suburban Life about his athletic career.

How long have you been playing baseball and football?

I've been playing baseball pretty much my entire life and football since I was 7 years old. I just like the competitive nature of both sports and being with my teammates and winning

Which sport do you like the most?

It's honestly hard for me to say. I like baseball during baseball season and football during football season. I think I've always just been naturally better at baseball, but I think I can reach my potential in football as well.

How tough do you think it will be to continue playing both sports at such a high level in college?

It will be tough, but when I told the baseball coach I wanted to keep playing football he was really supportive and gave my highlight tape to (Ohio State head football) coach Tressel. They watched it over and said they had a spot for me on the team. I think it will be tough, but the baseball coach seems flexible. I think he said he had 15 players do it before so it's possible.

Henton's transfer got me thinking. If OSU doesn't sign a QB in the '09 class then Oltorick could potentially be the 3rd stringer for the '09 season. Odds are that the '09 class fills out the 85 available scholarships. Suppose disaster happens with TP & Bauserman both getting hurt and Oltorick has to come in. He is currently on a baseball scholarship but from what I've heard once he steps foot on the football field he would count as a football schollie. However, in this hypothetical situation, OSU already has all 85 spots filled. What happens here? I know the odds on this happening are extremely long but I'm just curious what the rules might be for a situation such as this.
