Baseball: Ohio State hosts Penn State in Big Ten Weekend - The Ohio State Buckeyes Official Athletics Site - OhioStateBuckeyes.com
Quote:
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State and Penn State open the Big Ten Conference season with four games in Columbus this weekend. Three of the games ? the first three games of the series ? will be televised on the Big Ten Network. The Big Ten Network will also be in Columbus next week and will air two of the games against Minnesota. That will conclude BTN televised games from Columbus in the regular season, although the doubleheader at Northwestern will be on the network.
Ohio State is coming off a 9-1 win over Pittsburgh Wednesday that improved its record to 10-6. Andrew Armstrong, a southpaw from Bridgewater, Va., improved to 2-1 on the season by pitching 5.0 innings, scattering five hits and allowing no earned runs. He struck out five and walked just two. He retired 10 consecutive batters at one point. Penn State is coming off a three-game set against Lehigh last weekend and a loss to Canisius Monday. Penn State enters the series with a 5-12 record.

Baseball: Single Mission Leads to 15-0 Win - The Ohio State Buckeyes Official Athletics Site - OhioStateBuckeyes.com
Quote:
COLUMBUS, Ohio ? Ohio State scored 15 runs off 18 hits ? 16 of them singles ? and defeated Penn State, 15-0, in the Big Ten Conference opener for both schools. Ohio State improves to 11-6 overall and 1-0 in the Big Ten with its third consecutive win. Penn State drops to 5-13 and 0-1.
The 15-run margin was the largest margin of victory since Ohio State defeated Penn State by 27 runs, 29-2, in 2005 at State College.
Ohio State was led offensively by J.B. Shuck and Tyler Engle with three hits
apiece. Cory Kovanda, Dan Burkhart, Cory Rupert and Ryan Dew each had two hits. Engle also had a career-high three RBI and Ryan Meade, Rupert and Dew had two apiece.
The offensive explosion ? nothing new of late for Ohio State, which is averaging 9.5 runs and 16.3 hits in its last nine games ? supported the two-hit pitching of starter Jake Hale, who improved to 2-0 with the win. Hale pitched 6.0 scoreless innings for his best outing of the season.

Swinging success: Buckeyes start Big Ten play in style by riding an eight-run first inning
Saturday, March 29, 2008 3:18 AM

Penn State shortstop Lou Picconi mishandles a throw as Ohio State's J.B. Shuck slides into second with a stolen base.
Ohio State starting pitcher Jake Hale allowed two hits and two walks and struck out three in six innings to improve to 2-0.
By the time Tyler Engle started digging in as the ninth man in the batting order, Ohio State had scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning.
That didn't loosen the walnut-sized knot he had in the pit of his stomach.
"I felt like there was a lot of pressure on me to keep it up," said Engle, a true freshman from Fort Frye High School in Beverly, Ohio. "Coach (Bob) Todd has been on me for taking fastballs, and the first fastball I saw I tried to get on it and get a good a swing on it."
And how did Engle feel running to first base with a single?
"I kind of lost consciousness for a minute," he said.
Engle had three more hits and drove in four runs as the Buckeyes routed Penn State 15-0 in their Big Ten opener last night in Bill Davis Stadium.
