Northwestern Series (Official Thread)
The Buckeyes travel to Evanston, IL to take on the Wildcats in a 4 game weekend series this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. In honor of EvanstonCat, I present the following Official Site Preview
COLUMBUS, Ohio - It has been three seasons since Ohio State and Northwestern last met in a Big Ten Conference series. The two teams will renew their rivalry Friday thru Sunday, April 25-27 at Rocky Miller Park in Evanston in what is shaping up to be a hard fought and competitive series. Consider:
-The Buckeyes are in fourth place in the Big Ten at 8-7 and only one-half game up on Northwestern and Penn State (both are 8-8).
-Ohio State sits one-half game behind Illinois.
-Northwestern is on a roll with nine wins in its last 12 games, including a 7-3 record in its last 10 Big Ten games after last weekend?s 3-1 series win over Iowa.
-The Buckeyes have lost four of their last five Big Ten games.
-The two teams are hitting an identical .292 in Big Ten play.
-Ohio State has posted a team ERA of 3.85 in Big Ten games (2nd in the league) and Northwestern is 6th with a 5.88 ERA.
-The Buckeyes play three of their final four Big Ten series on the road (at NU; at Michigan; home vs. Illinois and at Iowa) so making the Big Ten tournament is going to require the team to be road warriors.
-Northwestern's schedule is also tough: it travels to Illinois next week, hosts Indiana and closes the season at Michigan.

Ohio State Bests Wildcats 11-2 in Series Opener
Northwestern unable to tally after the first inning
April 25, 2008
EVANSTON, Ill. - Two first-inning runs were all that Northwestern could muster off Ohio State pitchers Jake Hale and Rory Meister as Ohio State took the opening game of the four-game series 11-2 Friday afternoon at Rocky Miller Park.
The Buckeyes improve to 21-16 overall and 9-7 in the Big Ten, while the Wildcats fall to 14-18 and 8-9.
After Joe Muraski set down the Buckeyes in order in the top of the first, Jake Owens wasted little time in giving NU the lead as he launched his third home run of the season over the fence in left field on the first pitch he saw. Consecutive singles by Aaron Newman and Jake Goebbert put runners at the corners for the Wildcats before Mike Kalina chased home Newman from third with a sacrifice fly to right to make it 2-0.

Buckeyes split Saturday double-header
From the Official Site
EVANSTON, Ill. - Ohio State pounded three two-out home runs in the second inning of game two with Northwestern Saturday and rolled to a 13-1 win to split a doubleheader at Rocky Miller Park. The Wildcats came from behind to win the opener, 6-4.
The home run fun, which doubled the team's Big Ten home run total from three to six, led to a season-high eight run inning. Left hander Ryan Dew hit a three-run home run to the opposite field to give the Buckeyes a 4-0 lead. Four batters later, Brian DeLucia hit an inside the park grand slam home run - a towering shot to center that, aided by the blowing winds in Evanston, nobody was able to reach - and freshman Dan Burkhart followed with his first career home run to left to cap the big inning for the Buckeyes.
