</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>Villa Angela-St. Joseph junior David Lighty was upbeat on Wednesday, less than 24 hours before he was to undergo surgery at Euclid Hospital to repair a torn ACL in his right knee. Vikings fans have reason to be upbeat as well.
Lighty, a finalist for Mr. Basketball this past season and two-time Division III Northeast Lakes District Player of the Year, will be up and around sooner than many had speculated. The 6-foot-5 swingman sees absolutely no reason why he won't be 100 percent for his senior season. Lighty was told he will be allowed to go home today following the surgery. He will be walking in three days, will need crutches for two weeks and then will wear a brace to keep him from bending his knee after that. Doctors have told Lighty that he will be able to exercise and start light jogging in three months. The two-time All-Ohioan will miss the AAU season and will also be unable to compete in the country's elite basketball camps over the summer, but he said he should be fully recovered and ready to begin full basketball workouts in August.
In fact, as scary as it might sound, Lighty said he might be a better player after the surgery. "I will be able to work out and get stronger every day in the summer because I won't be able to play yet," Lighty said. "I'm really looking forward to next year." That's not good for the opposition. Lighty averaged 24.5 points, 11.8 rebounds, five assists and four steals a game this year, and broke the VASJ regular-season scoring record with 49 at Trinity. The coveted college recruit tore his ACL sometime during the district final win against Chanel at Lakeland, but not before he earned the district's MVP award and helped the Vikings to regionals for the first time since 2001.
Lighty, who is expected to make his college commitment sometime this summer, said none of the schools recruiting him have expressed any concerns or shied away since the injury.

I hope Lighty is able to get back to the form that has made him a top prospect, I would love to see him at OSU.

Man I feel bad for him, but you got to wish him a speedy recovery and hope that he can still keep his game in tip top shape.

I agree...I hope he is back in uniform next year and in S&G the year after. Cook mentioned him during his press conference as one of the guys he would like to try and get to come to OSU with him. I would be plenty happy with getting Cook, Lighty, and Morgan.

I agree 100%.....we are still recruiting him hard and I expect we have a legit shot at David.

Agreed...I seriously would be ecstatic to get Cook, Lighty, and Morgan. Conley would be the icing on the cake if possible. The important thing now is for Lighty to hopefully make a full recovery and the OSU staff to stay with him during his rehab. I wish David the best...

Q&A With David Lighty

Five-star junior David Lighty of Cleveland VA-SJ recently underwent surgery for a torn ACL. Kyle Lamb caught up with Lighty yesterday to get the latest on his status and talk a little recruiting as well. Click the link for more.

Lighty says the surgery went well and he will begin rehab soon. He is hoping to be back by mid August and full go by December. David is looking at Ohio State, Syracuse, Michigan and Arizona.

Apparently his injury might move up his timetable for deciding on a school. He like OSU a lot and talked about Cook's verbal and he stated that this only helps OSU and he is very interested in OSU. Cook apparently wants to put together something like what North Carolina has, a lot of talent and win a lot of games. Cook made an impact on him.

That was a great interview by Kyle. I love the fact that daequan is callin up the top recruits and telling them this is the place to be.

I think the interest Lighty has in tOSU is growing and that can only help with other big time recruits.

We could be in the making of our own fab five.

Lighty to Decide in Summer

GoBlueWolverine caught up with David Lighty recently and got an update on his progress since tearing his ACL toward the end of his season. Though still a little sore from the reparative surgery he had on Thursday, the athletic Ohio wing was in good spirits. We chatted with him about his rehab, Ohio State coach Thad Matta, his interest in the Wolverines and much more.

Talked about his injury and his rehab. Academics are very important to David, it will play a major role in his decision. Communications and architecture are the areas he is interested in. When asked about rating the importance of playing close to home he gave it a 9 out of 10. Stated Matta is showing what he can do at OSU and thinks Amaker is a great coach.

He expects to decide early to late summer.

I don't know anything about the communications department, but I know they just remodeled the architecture school. If he's serious, I would guess the new facilities would be as big a draw for him as Fisher is to business students.

Have you seen the new architecture building....what an eye sore that is! The architect of that building needs to flogged. sorry.
