Yes and no. Hugins has had, and potentially has (depending on who may or ay not be courting him for a job) associations with several Universities, therefore he is at the very least considered a Booster and falls under those rules (although they are so vague I don't know if anyone knows what they really are).

I know I've recieved a ltter the past two years detailing what is considered being a "Booster" according to the NCAA,and it went so far as to say if you regularly attend sporting events for a certain school then you cannot have "unauthorized" (again, who knows what this means) contact ith recruits or engage in activities that violate NCAA rules concerning active players.

All-in-all, I'm just guessing that coach Huggins doesn't have free reign so to speak regarding recruits just because he isn't hired as someone's coach yet.

It doesn't mean he can't have contact with recruits, he just cannot engage in "recruiting" to a school he would be labeled as a "booster" for. I'm quite certain he's not pushing OJ "Me"yo to any school in particular, until he knows what school will hire him.

Right, but just saying that just because he's not an active coach somewhere, if the NCAA has its rules and regs. regarding me (and my "loose" affiliation with tOSU) I'm sure Hugs still has to watch what he does with OJ and Walker (or any potential recruit) as a past Head Coach / potential future Head Coach, and the NCAA has their special section regarding his conduct even still (in limbo so to speak).

Huggins headed to S. Florida?Seth Davis, SI.com
If a group of well-heeled, highly-connected residents of the Tampa area have their way, Bob Huggins will be the next head coach at the University of South Florida.

An influential USF booster told SI.com this week that supporters of the program have had numerous conversations in recent days with Huggins' Cincinnati-based attorney, Richard Katz, who indicated Huggins would be interested in the Bulls coaching job if it opened up. Third-year coach Robert McCullum is not expected to return after USF's season ends this week with home games against Connecticut and Georgetown. The Bulls are currently 0-14 in their first season in the Big East (6-21 overall) and will not be among the 12 teams to qualify for the conference tournament, which begins on March 8 at Madison Square Garden.

"No decision has been made, but there is really a groundswell here amongst some of the core guys to bring Huggins in," the booster said.

One potential sticking point is South Florida president Judy Genshaft, who is said to be good friends with Nanzy Zimpher, the president at Cincinnati who pressured Huggins into resigning last August. When reached by SI.com on Monday afternoon, Katz declined to comment about the South Florida situation but added, "Coach Huggins is certainly interested in coaching major college basketball again and will be reviewing all situations."

going 399-127 in 16 years at Cincinnati, Huggins remains an attractive candidate for many schools despite his past battles with the NCAA and his DUI arrest in June 2004. He has also worked to maintain a relationship with O.J. Mayo and Bill Walker, two of the nation's top high school juniors who play for North College Hill near Cincinnati. If Huggins does not end up at South Florida, Huggins is also rumored to be a possible replacement for John Chaney at Temple if Chaney retires at the end of the season, as some insiders expect.

Huggins has also quietly expressed an interest in the current opening at Missouri, though for the time being that interest does not appear to be mutual. His flirtation with South Florida is the latest bit of intrigue in what is shaping up to be an active off-season of coaching moves. Word out of Cincinnati is that the school is considering hiring interim coach Andy Kennedy as a permanent replacement for Huggins, but if the Bearcats look elsewhere George Washington coach Karl Hobbs is emerging as a strong favorite.

Speculation is also rampant in college basketball circles that Kentucky coach Tubby Smith could leave Lexington to coach the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats, where current head coach Bernie Bickerstaff is reportedly contemplating a move to the front office.

Local morning show here in St. Louis also mentioned him as a possibility for the Temple job should John Chaney retire after this season.

Huggins to be at Senior Day

Hicks asked former UC coach to escort him on court

BY BILL KOCH | ENQUIRER STAFF WRITER

Former University of Cincinnati basketball coach Bob Huggins is expected to be at Fifth Third Arena Saturday for pregame ceremonies honoring the Bearcats' five seniors.
And if it's up to senior forward Eric Hicks, Huggins, whose contract was terminated in August, will do more than sit in one of the luxury suites during the game against No. 16 West Virginia.
Hicks said Thursday he planned to walk onto the floor with Huggins, interim head coach Andy Kennedy and his family.
"I called him," Hicks said of Huggins. "I'm going to walk out with him. I want to go out like everybody else went out. I came here to play for him and AK, and that's who I intend to play for. If AK hadn't been the coach here (after Huggins left), I would have been gone."
Kennedy confirmed that Huggins plans to be at the game. He said Huggins called and asked if he had any objections if Huggins showed up. Kennedy said he didn't.
But he said he hadn't heard of any plans for Huggins to accompany Hicks on the floor before the game.
Hicks, though, was adamant in wanting Huggins to be part of the ceremony. He said he had called Huggins and asked if he would do it, and that Huggins agreed.
"I'm walking out with him," Hicks said. "I want to go out with him and AK. I want to go out with them and my family."
Like many of his predecessors at UC, Hicks had his share of battles with Huggins over the years, but he said they did not diminish the respect he has for his former coach.
"Those type of things, they're not fun at the time," Hicks said, "but afterward they build relationships."
