Our coach WAS willing to cheat
Leave to Kashmir to fail to fathom the English language again. There's a difference in "violating rules" and "cheating". "Violating rules" is what OB did when he gave the $6,000 to help out the Radojevic family in war-torn Yugoslavia. "Cheating" is using money or other favors to coerce players into coming to play for your school (ala Michigan)...huge difference, Rashmish.

I always liked this guy
If Obie really cared about the kid and his family why didn't he tell to just go back to Europe and play pro there to help his family out?

there is no difference. By giving money to a recruit you are violating rules and you are cheating. Ed Martin was only helping out Chris Webber in war-torn Detroit after all.
one of my buddies had this to say. I found it amusing:
"It's stupidity like this that makes me ashamed to be a Buckeye yet again. Seriously, O'Brien dropped the ball by not calling Louis Irizarry to have him steal all records of the basketball team's cheating while he was trespassing on campus. Can't the scumbag basketball coaches/players and the criminal football players/coaches get along and work together? If not Louis, I'm sure Tressel could find someone on his team with some B&E experience? Where's Chattams when you need him?"

This stinks.

umm... that Serbian player, who 'was in dire financial straits' was ruled Ineligible to play in the NCAA due to the fact that he was playing PROFESSIONAL basketball in Europe... dire financial straits, my ass...
in a way, i'm glad OB is gone, because i don't agree with his philosphy of bringing in overseas talent when we have BETTER talent right outside our front door... why not try to get the good ones close to home? when the overseas guys aren't superstars, we wasted our chances on the Good ones at home both now and in the future... anyway...
but MAN. i didn't want it to end like this...

Playing pro basketball in Europe does not mean that he was making a lot of money. If you play one semipro game, you're eligibility is history. If he was playing for a real team and making real money, the NCAA would have known that he was ineligible long before they did.
OB has not recruited an overseas player since Kobe Ocokolich or however you spell it. The last foreign player of any kind he recruited was Velimir and that was 4 years ago.

oh... well, it was a backhanded attempt to give him the benefit of the doubt... now you just shot that down...
oh well... OB would never have made it to the Final Four w/out Ayres, no matter what anyone says... once he got 'his guys' in the system, the system started a downhill slide...
i think Gieger put it rather poigniantly with his lack of comments... OB might be a good man, but he's lost his priviledge to coach... at least for Ohio State...

We wouldn't have been in the FF without Scoonie and we wouldn't have had him without OB.
