Good read, does anyone remember the Laettner stomp? All I remember from that year was the shot, was the stomp vicious?

I have hated Duke since the days of Art Heyman but I am not getting into this "discussion".

I don't know much about the 1992 incident, anyone else remember much about it.
That game was in the NCAA tournament. The Kentucky player fell on the floor, on his back, and Laettner (while standing up, he wasn't tripping over the guy) stepped on his lower chest - it looked clearly intentional to me, and I thought he should have been ejected for it. I don't think he stepped on him hard enough to seriously injure him, but I thought the poor sportmanship of stepping on somebody intentionally warranted an ejection.

At the end of the same game, Laettner caught the long pass with 2.1 seconds left, turned and hit the shot that send Duke to the Final 4. I'm sure everybody has seen that replay a few times.

And Duke won their second straight title that year.

He may have not meant for it to play out exactly like it did, but make no mistake about it, he went in there to prove a point.

ok i can at least understand this if you are saying he went in to foul. i dont think he intended to foul in the first place but im sure he realized it was going to end up that way once he was in the air. i dont know if i would exactly put it in the words that he went in to prove a "point" because i dont think thats the case at all. greg oden makes a lot of "points" in that scenario. i just think it would have been interesting to see what would have happened if the other duke player wouldnt have hacked hansbrough and hansbrough would of went up for the shot because in that scenario i think there would of been far less contact or none and the result would have been a blocked shot or foul. by rule sure henderson had to be ejected but i really see this incident no differently than if oden would miss the ball on a block and accidentally hit an opposing player while he would be swatting for the ball. it happens but like i said i think the whole thing is completely blown out of proportion and it starts a firestorm of destruction once people make a bigger deal out of it than what it is. the media is having a field day with it and then the coach's come up with lame comments about players being in the game and so on......

thats duke for you. they get the calls and miraculous breaks all the time while dookie v dry humps them. luckily they havnt gotten nearly as many this year and the results show. with that said they will still get a higher seed then what they deserve.
