Ohio State men's basketball
Starts giving Buckeyes fits

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
SAN ANTONIO -- A week ago, after the great escape against Xavier, it was suggested that a lot of teams that reach the Final Four overcome that one scare along the road.
But two?
"We're living on the edge," Ohio State forward David Lighty acknowledged yesterday, a little more than 12 hours after the Buckeyes came from 20 points behind Tennessee to win 85-84 in an NCAA South Regional semifinal in the Alamodome. "If you don't come ready to play on any given day, you can get beat.

Neal C. LauronDISPATCH Ohio State center Greg Oden, right, has more appetite for blocking shots than for dormitory food.
Short-attention span synopsis: How many TVs clicked off at halftime? Oden can't keep hands to himself. Ron Lewis goes Kobe on Tennessee. Orange you glad you weren't a Vols fan?
Worth the trip? OSU fans looked like saggy and soggy flotsam along the San Antonio Riverwalk until the Buckeyes became the San Antonio Spurs and turned the party from pooper to super. Tex-Mex for everyone!

OHIO STATE INSIDER
Offense struggles, but never OSU's confidence
Saturday, March 24, 2007 Doug Lesmerises
Plain Dealer Reporter
San Antonio -- If there's such a thing as having too much confidence, Ohio State might have it, and that's what has saved the Buckeyes in their last two games. During the year, they occasionally got in trouble with their lack of conscience with their shooting. Miss? Miss again? Who cares, keep firing, just as Thad Matta preached.
"It can be a problem sometimes," point guard Mike Conley Jr. said Friday. "But at the same time, it's a good thing to have that confidence in our guys. I think having that confidence helps us more than it hurts us."
During the second-half comeback against Tennessee on Thursday, every Buckeye was ready and willing to keep firing without hesitation.

Despite living on the edge, OSU finds a way to prevail
No. 1-ranked Buckeyes aren't blowing many teams out, but they know how to rally and win close contests.

SAN ANTONIO ? Greg Oden didn't know a mulligan from Gilligan's Island.
When he learned it was a do-over off the tee box in golf, the Ohio State center agreed that the Buckeyes have survived their last two NCAA tournament basketball games despite a few hooks and slices.

Buckeyes' bonds run deep during challenging season
It wasn't easy for the talented freshman class to mesh with Ohio State's veterans.

Ohio State basketball players only drop hints about this season's challenges.
Freshman point guard Mike Conley Jr., named the NCAA tournament's Most Outstanding Player in the South Regional on Sunday, gave a little more insight.
"It's been real hard," Conley said. "We've been through a lot of ups and downs within the team. And we try to keep a lot of stuff between the team. And we do a good job of that. I think that's what's made us so good so far."
