Buckeyes get time to relax
Saturday, February 10, 2007 Doug Lesmerises
Plain Dealer Reporter
Columbus- Thad Matta gave his players the day off Wednesday. Junior guard Jamar Butler and freshman Mike Conley got massages. Freshman center Greg Oden slept.
After watching Ohio State's Big Ten championship team wither down the stretch last season, the Buckeyes are very aware of avoiding the physical wall they couldn't help but run into last season.
"At this point last year, I started to wear down," Butler said. "Right now, I feel like I could play 100 more games."

Men's Basketball Quotes - Feb. 9, 2007
Feb. 9, 2007
Ohio State head coach Thad Matta
On the win against Michigan
"We were not as sharp and mentally prepared as we needed to be. It was the awareness and ability to read and see things before they happened that we were missing in the first half." On Ohio State
"We've watched a lot of film lately to try and get the guys to see the things that need to be carried over from one game to the next. Purdue will see different things from us and we'll see different things from them Saturday."

Movin' on up
Ohio State (22-3, 10-1) has won nine straight and ascended to second in both major polls. Buckeyes coach Thad Matta said he hasn't paid much attention to rankings since November.
But after Saturday's tight 63-56 victory against Purdue, Matta said he and his players understand being a target.
"We're in a unique position here," he said. "Last year, we were trying to climb up. Right now, people are trying to knock us off. I think that takes a special element of toughness and mind-set when you take the court."

COLLEGE NEWSWATCH
Ohio State takes two seconds
Tuesday, February 13, 2007 From staff and wire reports
The Ohio State men's basketball team moved up to No. 2 in both the Associated Press poll and the USA Today/ESPN coaches poll released Monday. The 22-3 Buckeyes, on a nine-game winning streak, moved up a spot after No. 2 UCLA was upset last week.
Florida, which beat Ohio State by 26 points in December, remained No. 1, while Wisconsin, which handed Ohio State its most recent loss on Jan. 9, was ranked No. 3.
Also, OSU point guard Mike Conley Jr. was named the Big Ten's co-Player of the Week after averaging 18.5 points and five assists per game last week. The Buckeyes visit Penn State on Wednesday and Minnesota on Sunday.
Cont'd...
