Thad Matta was on 1460 the fan this afternoon talking about the team...
-Everyone is doing well in the classroom.
-Oden's rehab is described as going well, Greg is moving his wrist but they are being cautious.
-Coach Matta talks about the upcoming season and says he wants to keep his incoming freshmen away from newspapers, tv and the radio.  |

The Ohio State men?s basketball team will open the regular season against Virginia Military Institute on Nov. 10 in the first round of the Black Coaches Association Classic in Value City Arena.
The bracket for the three-day, eight-team tournament was released last night. It was delayed nearly a month while a replacement was found for Providence, which was announced as part of the original field.
The replacement, Alabama A&M, will play IUPUI in the first of the four games Nov. 10. The other two will be South Dakota State vs. Kent State and Loyola (Ill.) vs. Princeton.
Ohio State will face Loyola or Princeton in the second round Nov. 11 and one of the other four teams Nov. 12.
Four games will be played each day in Value City Arena. SportsTime Ohio will televise some of them. Game times will be announced later.

OSU, Kent basketball on collision course

COLUMBUS - The first weekend of the college basketball season could include a matchup between Ohio State and Kent State in the title game of the SportsTime Ohio BCA Classic.
The brackets for the tournament, to be played Nov. 10-12 at Ohio State?s Value City Arena, were released today. Some of the games will be televised on SportsTime Ohio, while tickets are available by calling 1-800-GO-BUCKS.
Ohio State will open against Virginia Military Institute, while on the other side of the bracket, Kent State will start against South Dakota State.

Game 1: IUPUI vs. Alabama A&M
Game 2: Kent State vs. South Dakota State
Game 3: Loyola Chicago vs. Princeton
Game 4: Ohio State vs. Virginia Military Institute

Vitale's best bets to make 2007 Final Four
ESPN college basketball analyst Dick Vitale gives his five best bets to make it to the 2007 Final Four at the Georgia Dome:
1. NORTH CAROLINA. Roy Williams will get his second championship in three seasons. He has great returning talent, led by Tyler Hansbrough, and great diaper dandies coming in, including Ty Lawson.
2. FLORIDA. Billy Donovan returns his entire starting five from last season's champions, but it is so tough to repeat in college basketball.
3. KANSAS. The Jayhawks are loaded with Brandon Rush and Julian Wright. Newcomers Darrell Arthur and Sherron Collins will help.
4. OHIO STATE. The big question is, how long will Greg Oden be out of the lineup following wrist surgery? When he is in the lineup, Thad Matta's Buckeyes will be tough.
5. UCLA. Jordan Farmar is gone, but Darren Collison should step up. Ben Howland's team could return to the Final Four. -- Atlanta Journal-Constitution

damn. how awesome is that? i know it's vitale and all, but look at the other teams in that top-5. i get goosebumps thinking that matta's teams will be annually considered as premier teams alongside unc, duke, ucla, kansas, kentucky, and so on.

The cover that should be available in Ohio has Oden palming a ball while wearing his McDonald?s All-American jersey.
