according to a poster on the illini scout board, turner did an excellent job guarding rose:

Rose was on fire early and Turner took over guarding him. I was much more impressed with Turner than when I saw them lose to St. Patrick's in December. VERY athletic on both ends of the court.

I like that competitveness from Turner. He really backed it up, too, it would seem. Pretty crazy that a guy who can go toe-to-toe with Rose is our seeming "role-player" kind of recruit. I'm not so sure that Rose is going to like the answer as to who is the better player at the next level. Rose is a young phenom PG...they usually do pretty good in college, but after that, it's a crap-shoot. Turner might end up being the better pro prospect, going up against Cook, Lighty, Diebler, Koufos, Buford, etc...day after day.

Evan Turner apologizes
St. Joseph's star forward feels bad about the war of words with Simeon's Derrick Rose on Saturday...
Here's an exclusive excerpt from this week's issue of Ill. Hoops, which features Turner's diary:

Nice to see the kid apologize for acting so cocky after the game. But it reads like a standard apology a pro player would give written by an agent.
And Rose will be the better player at the next lever.... because he needs to be. Turner will have far too much talent around him to put up huge numbers in college. Here's hoping he's ok with that.

Mayo, Love headline 'loaded' showcase at United Center
March 2, 2007
BY STEVE TUCKER Staff Reporter
First we had the LeBron Game. Last year it was the Oden Game. Now we have the Quest to be Best, as Kevin Love and O.J. Mayo -- players ranked as high as 1-2 by some scouting services -- headline the 43rd annual Roundball Classic, which will be played April 3 at the United Center.
I was among those fortunate enough to watch the summer clashes in Las Vegas between teams headed by Mayo and Love. Meanstreets Express, which featured Simeon's Derrick Rose, Indiana prep star Eric Gordon and Leo's Tony Topps, also was there.
