Turner hasn't gotten a ton of talk on the OSU boards because I think most do not know much about him but if I could describe him, the first thing that comes to mind is a versatile player who does everything well.

Besides his ability to play the PG a little how would you compare him to Diebler?

Someone already mentioned it earlier but Grant Hill is really comes to mind...

He is a guy that can score off dribble or shoot if need be, he can distribute the ball, and he is long and athletic to play D, and also seems to have that desire to be good as you could tell with his desire to prove that he was better than Rose in their matchups...

To Diebler it is a difficult comparison b/c I think they are the same in some respects, but Diebler is a real good shooter and do other things if need be...Turner does everything on the floor well...

Thats what he sounds like to from the reading about him. Grant was so skinny his freshman year but, that one-handed ally-oop dunk in a NCAA game was one of the best college dunks that I can remember.

Not sure Diebler had different responsibilities for his team which put him in a bad situation especially on D. I think what you are trying to say without putting words in your mouth is that Turner is a better athlete at this point in time and has a better all-around game right now but again I do not think that is fair to Jon

Yeah I can agree with this, but the thing is both of these kids are very smart players, which can put you ahead of other players that might have a better skill set...

rereading this analysis of turner from last year's abcd camp, i can't help but think that he's going to be a major factor next year:

Turner is a legit find for OSU. At 6'7", he's got an ideal frame for a college small forward, and like the rest of his Illinois Wolves teammates on the Mavs (McCamey, Fay, etc), he's extremely polished and knows his role. He had one sick spin move while driving to the lane that he made look too easy. Not the flashiest wing player in camp (see Walker, Bill), but he's perhaps the most ready to contribute.

turner is an excellent ballhandler who makes solid decisions, so i'm thinking that he'd take over butler's spot as the 2-guard, provided that conley leaves. i think that lighty and deibler would be battling for the 3. when butler's out of the game, i'd expect that turner and deibler would form a guard tandem, with neither necessarily assuming the spot as the sole 1.

You don't think Lighty steps into the starting 3 spot if Cook is gone?

I think Lighty may have been the starting three regardless if Cook left...

He was THAT good at the end of the season.

This is a little OT, but that could be a reason why Cook may be leaning towards leaving early.

Anyways, back to Turner!

i don't know. no one knows. a sophomore isn't exactly an upperclassman, so i can't see using that as the primary argument for starting him over an able diebler. a 3 must have a game from beyond 15 feet. lighty is not there yet. we'll see next year.

provided that occ leave, lighty, diebler, and turner are all battling for two spots (2 & 3). considering that the shooting guard and small forward depth may be severely limited, it hardly matters who starts. after four minutes have passed, the players decide their own minutes. if occ aren't around next year, what we should hope for the most is that the forwards and guards are properly conditioned.

great athlete, long, will cause some match up issues. (on the pg issue also said lighty might get some possessions at the 1)

Further proof of my claim that he reminds me a lot of Grant Hill, who played a lot of point-forward at Duke and in the NBA. Great to hear. He may get the start because of Matta's propensity to have 2 legit ball handlers in the starting lineup. Good for Evan.
