Its hard to say or project his playing time 2 years down the road, it really depends on the guys in front of him. I will say this......Turner is only scratching the surface of his talent. He does everything well, he is becoming a very good all-around player. He brings a hard hat to the court so to speak and that will fit in well with the guys in the 2006 class.

Just watched his most recent highlight tape.

Not really sure on a guy to compare him too. I have seen Livingston's name mentioned but not sure on that one.

I really like Turner's game and I think with the combo of guards and wings we are going to have his game is going to fit in nicely. IMO he looks like a 6'7'' guy that just grew out of the pg position, but can still handle the ball with ease and can take it strong to the rack. He is going to need work on his jumper, but he looks to have a lil pull up from 15 and in. He will take it at you strong. He is not a guy that will play above the rim and dunk it, but he uses his body very nicely to shield the defender and can finish.

Another thing from watching his video you could really tell that he has those long arms that can get in passing lanes and block shots.

I really like Turner's game and I see him as a developing young star that will play but struggle some his freshmen year, but once he adds weight he will improve and become a leader by the time he leaves here.

Im starting to grow more and more into this kid, just like everyone else.

As for his staying time, IMO, it depends on how he is treated at school. If he comes in with alot of love and the coaches really ahve a heart to heart with him on him needed a degree for his future, he could very well stay. Things change once your actually in school and figuring out your life plan, instead of having high school NBA dreams.

Video of Turner in action.

My Take: When watching this film and trying to compare him to a past Buckeye, the name that pops in my head is Brian Brown. Turner is very good at slashing to the hole and takes contact well. Has a very quick step and a good handle on the ball. The fact they show some defensive highlights on this video is suprising, its rare you see that from a film clip, unless you are watching Greg Oden. Has nice form on his mid-range jumper. Athletic, long and seems to play bigger than his frame.

At the ABCD camp, Turner turned in a very impressive performance on the first day, scoring 11 points and also holding Taylor King to just 4 points.

Note: Once again, his defense is mentioned.

The Defensive Stopper?

It sounds like from the other posts that Turner has the ability to be a defensive stopper. This is great news, because with this incoming team, there might not be enough basketballs on the court.

Havlicek (many of you young'uns might remember him as a Boston Celtic) played 'stopper' on the 1960-62 Buckeyes, although like everyone else, was high scorer on his HS team. This fit in very well with the shooters (Siegfried and Nowell), and the rebounders (Lucas and Joe Roberts). They managed to win a national championship. He was put on the other team's big scorer, and gave himself up on offense. I kinda figured LIghty would fill this role, but you guys are convincing me otherwise.

Oh by the way, Havlicek was not the highest rated on this recruiting team (Lucas and NOwell were), but he had the best pro career. I seem to recollect that he's in teh top twenty in NBA points scored? (Someone will correct me, I am certain). Anyway, it's great to have a guy of his flexibility of positions on board. Quite a coup for Thad.......

I want Yancy Gates, and we're set to rock 'n roll. Bring on the Dukies, because we'll match up with them man to man, all the way down to number fourteen! Can you spell D-Y-N-A-S-T-Y? (I know, I know two recruiting classes does not a dynasty make, but what the hey! Greatness begats greatness.

Day 2 at the ABCD camp...

Quote:
Evan Turner - #95 – Mavs - #23 Rivals.com (#6 SF)
Chicago, IL – 6’7” – 2007 – Ohio State

Turner is a legit find for OSU. At 6’7”, he’s got an ideal frame for a college small forward, and like the rest of his Illinois Wolves teammates on the Mavs (McCamey, Fay, etc), he’s extremely polished and knows his role. He had one sick spin move while driving to the lane that he made look too easy. Not the flashiest wing player in camp (see Walker, Bill), but he’s perhaps the most ready to contribute.

Even better. Havlicek is currently 10th in career points (these stats are regular season only).

Day 3 at the ABCD camp...

Quote:
Evan Turner - #95 – Mavs - #23 Rivals.com (#6 SF)
Chicago, IL – 6’7” – 2007 – Ohio State

The more I watch this kid, the more I like him. Up against OJ Mayo this afternoon, Turner held his own. He’s so long and lean, and can jump up on a dime, which causes a lot of problems on the offensive boards. He’s one of the few guys who you could fault as being unselfish, as he doesn’t try to dominate the action like other stars.

Turner talks about his verbal to Ohio State. One major factor in his decision was the time he spent with Diebler, Lauderdale and Koufos at the recent NBA camp, he felt they were like family.

Hondo's Numbs

Thanks BB73 - can always count on 'one of the group' to help out on the details. #10 on that list is one helluva achievement. The company is pretty storied.

I like the previous post, who says that Turner is bonding with Diebler, Lauderdale, and Kousfos. That help solidifies that group, assuming that they all play for the four years of their schollie. The two big men will play the four and five, and Diebler will play either the two or the three. I don't see Diebler being the 'defensive stopper', but maybe I'm wrong. If Turner can do that, AND average 15 points, he's got (in my opinion) a better shot at the NBA than the guy that puts up 30 (can anyone say Freeman Williams of Portand State?) And in the right place, ala John Havlicek of the Celtics, hall of fame is not so far away.........

If someone will step up and play the defensive stopper, then the four above, plus maybe Gates would equal a very good shot at the NCAA final four, and with a little luck (and no foul trouble), another banner to hang from the Schott's rafters (1960 is pretty lonely).

All this B-Ball news is great. Keep it coming, and
