I'm baffled by all of the sports writers for ESPN and SI saying that Ohio State will not be able to live up to the expectations. If no one thinks they're going to do anything, are there really any high expectations?
Meanwhile, a Kansas team built on young talent is a popular national title pick... even though they can't remember what it's like to be in the Round of 32. And apparently, it's the same old Bill Self-coached team.
Hopefully, Ohio State will be the same-old Thad Matta-coached team.

Also, Oral Roberts had a superstar performance from an unheard of sophmore that is largely responsible for the win.
M. Vealy shot 7 for 8 from behind the 3 point line.

UNC looked pretty sloppy, but pulled it together in time to win. Hey, I'll take #3 this early in the season. We'll get our shot at UNC's ranking soon enough

Sutton does a nice job at ORU. Vealy had some BCS interest but some grade/character issuses kept him on ORU's level. I believe he was the top ranked player in Oklahoma his senior year. Vealy will be a player before it's all said and done. Caleb Green and Ken Tutt are straight ballers and they've really put that program on their backs. Sutton does a good job finding "troubled" players like his old man.

the funny part is that the justification is that without oden, osu isnt that good, and probably doesn't stack up against wisconsin and a few other big ten teams according to digger phelps. however, oden will be back for big ten play at the worst, so that statement is totally irrelevant. osu will likely not stack up against unc without oden, but there is no other team on the schedule that they can't beat without him between now and his slotted return. |

There are four teams right now that Ohio State would seriously struggle to compete with... North Carolina, Florida, Georgetown, and LSU. Without Oden, we simply do not have the rebounding or interior defense to stop, or even slow down, skilled big men.
But with Oden, we would have no trouble frustrating any one of those four teams. I think it is an advantage playing without him for a while, so the players will get a chance to gel on offense, until the defensive force gets in there.
