Buckeyes not shy in routing Hawks
Monday, February 05, 2007Doug Lesmerises
Plain Dealer Reporter
Columbus- Jessica Davenport wouldn't stand up.
When the crowd at Value City Arena on Sunday was told that Ohio State's senior center had reached 1,000 rebounds for her career, making her the second player in Big Ten history with 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds, Davenport's teammates stood and crowded around her on the Ohio State bench.
She sat and smiled.

Davenport hits another milestone for Ohio State

Davenport took advantage of a height advantage inside, scoring 22 points to lead the fifth-ranked Buckeyes past the Hawkeyes 85-49 yesterday.
Iowa was without 6-foot-6 Megan Skouby, a Mentor graduate who broke her hand in practice on Saturday. That left the middle almost wide open for Davenport.
"I don't know if I can say Megan is her physical equal," Iowa coach Lisa Bluder said. "There's not many people in America who are Jessica Davenport's physical equal. But at the same time it was obviously a big loss when we lost Megan."

Buckeye Fast Starts, Fast Breaks, Too Much for Hawkeyes
By John Porentas
The No. 5 Buckeyes (21-1, 10-0 Big Ten) opened the first half with a 16-2 blitz, then followed up with a 14-0 run to open the second half to enable themselves to embarrass visiting Iowa (11-12, 3-7 Big Ten) by a final of 85-49 in front of 9,799 fans at Value City Arena.
Iowa was without the services of regular starting center, 6-5 Megan Skouby who broke a bone in her hand in practice on Friday and is expected to be out of action from two to four weeks. Without Skouby the Hawkeyes could not match up with 6-5 OSU center Jessica Davenport. Davenport capitalized with a game-high 22 points and also added five rebounds.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
FRED SQUILLANTE DISPATCH Ohio State?s Star Allen, left, and Iowa?s Jenee Graham fight for a loose ball. Allen scored 11 points.
The numbers keep growing for the Ohio State women?s basketball team, but pardon the coaches and players if they decline to count any of them, for the time being at least.
On the same afternoon that the fifthranked and Big Ten-leading Buckeyes dismantled Iowa 85-49 yesterday in Value City Arena, several significant statistical events occurred.
