INDIANAPOLIS ? The Ohio State women?s basketball team overcame a major scare from upstart Indiana last night in the quarterfinal round of the Big Ten tournament. But even as their racing heart rates dropped after a 72-60 victory in Conseco Fieldhouse, the top-seeded Buckeyes (27-2) already were forced to consider what postseason life might be like without injured junior guard Marscilla Packer.

Indianapolis- Ohio State refused to crack.
Already playing without all-conference guard Brandie Hoskins, and losing their other starting guard, Marscilla Packer, early in the second half Friday night, the No. 5 Buckeyes survived by going inside.
Three-time conference Player of the Year Jessica Davenport scored 30 points, and forward Star Allen added 15 points and 13 rebounds to help the Buckeyes pull away from ninth-seeded Indiana, 72-60, in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals in Indianapolis.

I haven't yet seen a report about how bad Packer's ankle might be, but if it is one of those high sprains, God forbid, and her ability is limited or even prevents her from playing, I think the Lady Bucks are in real trouble. My perception is that BB teams can overcome the loss of one star player, but rarely two. I sure hope I am wrong about that in this case, or that she can play and it is not an issue.

INDIANAPOLIS ? The body blow of the night before had subsided enough yesterday for the Ohio State women?s basketball team to pause and take a deep, collective breath. The top-seeded Buckeyes advanced to a semifinal of the Big Ten tournament Friday night in Conseco Fieldhouse at a cost. Junior guard Marscilla Packer suffered a sprained left ankle in a 72-60 victory over Indiana and remained doubtful to play tonight against fifthseeded Penn State.

I too , would like to get to watch at least one Tourney game. They are going to have to play their hearts out now if Packer can't play, or be effective. Good luck ladies. |
