The inaugural Phyllis Bailey Career Achievement Award will be presented to Phyllis Bailey; Hoorah!
Phyllis Bailey
COLUMBUS, Ohio ? The Ohio State Varsity ?O? Women?s Alumnae Society will present the inaugural Phyllis Bailey Career Achievement Award to the award?s namesake, Phyllis Bailey, tomorrow during the Ohio State-Michigan State football game at Ohio Stadium.
Bailey, the first women?s basketball coach at Ohio State, is being honored for her contributions to the development of female student-athlete participation at Ohio State. She dedicated her 40-year career to improving opportunities for women?s athletics. At the university, she served as an instructor, advisor, coordinator of intramurals and recreation, women?s basketball coach and coordinator of women?s sports programs in the physical education department. She finished her exemplary career with 20 years of service as an Assistant Athletics Director.
Bailey served the university during a pivotal time for intercollegiate sports programs. During her tenure, she experienced the merger of the men?s and women?s physical education departments in 1968. She oversaw the establishment of the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women in 1971, which organized and recognized female intercollegiate competition for the first time. With the support of Title IX in the late 1970s and the acceptance of women in the NCAA in 1981, the athletics department was restructured and Bailey became a department administrator.

Women's Basketball Gearing Up For Season Opener.
Link
We're a little over three weeks away from the season opener Nov. 11 against Marist. And after a full week of preseason practice, OhioStateBuckeyes.com caught up with senior guard Marscilla Packer as the Buckeyes gear up for a run at their fourth-straight Big Ten Conference title.
After Marist, the Buckeyes remain at home for their second contest vs. Tennessee State Nov. 14. Following a trip east to take on Boston University Nov. 17, Ohio State travels back to Columbus for a three-game home stand, which includes the Buckeye Classic at St. John Arena Nov. 24-25. Ohio State will face Colgate on the 24th and either Winston-Salem or Auburn the following day.

OSU women's basketball: Stoke's decision comes as surprise
Tuesday, October 23, 2007 3:25 AM
By Jim Massie
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Amber Stokes averaged 17.5 points as a junior at DeSales and Gahanna last season.
Dinner was winding down, and the rustle of chairs around the table Saturday night signaled the end of the official recruiting visit for Amber Stokes with the Ohio State women's basketball team. Before the dishes could be cleared, Amber decided to surprise her parents, Ron and Lavita, with a move to the hoop as quick as any she will make for the Gahanna High School team during her senior season. Her father never saw it coming.

Women's basketball: Buckeyes picked to win Big Ten
Monday, October 29, 2007 3:33 AM
By Jim Massie
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
CHICAGO -- The two familiar faces missing from the team photo of the Ohio State women's basketball team didn't change the perception of the Buckeyes among Big Ten coaches and media.
Despite the graduation of three-time conference player of the year Jessica Davenport and all-league guard Brandie Hoskins, both groups tabbed Ohio State yesterday as the preseason favorite to win the Big Ten.
The reason is in the numbers. The Buckeyes captured at least a portion of the past three regular-season titles because Davenport and Hoskins were capable of casting large shadows at crunch time. That kind of team resume breeds lofty expectations, senior guard Marscilla Packer said.
