I'm excited about Samantha coming to OSU, she's the type of point guard we've never seen at OSU. I was shocked to see she's not only OSU's only rep, but the only one from the Big Ten. The Big Ten is in a serious tailspin right now. This is the worst I've seen the Big Ten in over a decade at the top of the conference and it doesn't look like it's going to get any better. It doesn't appear winning Big Ten titles is going to become any tougher thus making it less impressive of an accomplishment, but I think this is the type of player we need to have more success in the tournament. We just need to keep recruiting girls of her skill level, especially the ones from Ohio and stop letting them get away. |

When I first read this statement, I was going to respond with "are you fucking stupid?" But, I took a moment, sat back and thought about this in football terms...
Would you fire a coach who always got you to a bowl game but rarely won one? Yes, yes you would.
Simply put, we need to be able to compete outside of the Big10, the Lady Bucks have a great squad that I always watch and hope will go deep into the tourney, but it just doesn't happen, and more often than not, they lose to inferior talent. I hate to think we have the Marty Schottenheimer of basketball coaches, but more and more it begins to look like that. |

This is exactly my point. We as Ohio State fans should know about this as well as anyone. John Cooper had a fantastic winning percentage, but he failed to beat Michigan and win bowl games which in basketball I would equate to failing to meet expectations in the NCAA tournament and more often than not losing to inferior talent. Well that's basically the same situation we're going through right now with Foster. No doubt Cooper and Foster are very good coaches, maybe even HOF coaches, but there comes a point when it becomes obvious a coach has done all he can do for a program and I think we've reached that point. Also, for anyone to suggest that getting rid of Foster would somehow doom the program is silly. What, are we going to hire some grad assistant from a mac school? This is Ohio State, we have great facilities and most importantly money. We'd be able to attract a very good young coach to build this program into a national power. Anybody here upset we got rid of Cooper to hire Tressel? I doubt it.

I agree with the desire to have the program achieve more success on a national level; but I don't buy the comparison of Foster to Cooper, and I'm not ready to cast aside a coach who has led the program to the success it's enjoyed recently.
Winning 4 straight Big Ten titles and having difficulty in the NCAA tournament, in my mind, would equate to beating TSUN in football but losing the bowl game. We all know that 3-8 (Coop's bowl record) reflects some postseason struggles, but 2-10-1 is a far cry from 4 straight Big Ten titles in the regular season. To me, that makes comparing Foster to Cooper too harsh of a judgment.

With all due respect, I don't think that it is even fair to compare Ohio State football records with Ohio State basketball records. You can just look at the number of posters in the football forum compared to the number of posters in the basketball forum at any given time.
I have said this before that I believe Foster is a quality person and has a great deal of compassion for the student athlete. However, this year he lost a recruit to Duke, LSU, Tennessee, and I believe UConn. When players are recruited by these schools you know they are very good players. Why aren't they coming to Ohio State? Foster's style of play or what? These questions need to be addressed before the program hits Nancy Darsch level.

I understand the frustration, but Foster's recruiting, while he has missed on some Ohio girls has gotten better IMO...He landed 3 good ones last year and then 2 good ones this year, with Samantha and Ronnie Stokes daughter...
Lavendar is going to be one of the best players to ever play here by the time she leaves, and we should have some shooters around here, along with more athletic ability...
I still give Foster another year or two before I really start to think about letting him go...
Either way you look at it he is bringing talent in, so it will be hard for him to go downhill in the next couple years...
Lots of good assistant coaches on the bench as well...
