I see what you're saying. My guess is that the pressure from the alumni and fans was finally enough to provoke a reaction. On top of that, this was a veteran team that stayed healthy and still couldn't get over the hump.

Really? Matta took Xavier to the Elite 8 - had them about as high on the basketball pecking order as Xavier can ever be expected to, and then jumped ship for a program stuck in scandal. And nobody considered that a lateral move.
Marquette, no matter how well they're doing now (certainly not as well as Xavier was doing when Matta left) is not a step up from a mega-budget Big Ten program like Michigan.

the best news is that with the players coming in that we do it won't make any difference who the coach is for scum

Such confidence. Then again, Harris and Legion aren't chopped liver either. Both were obviously disappointed about the firing but reiterated their commitment to Michigan. Which, by the way, should answer any question as to why there would have been hesitation about firing Amaker this year - those two are a hell of a recruiting class to risk. Many of us thought that Amaker might stay just for that reason.

I think the Petway video was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Legion is far from a done deal, regardless of what he told the press.

I don't think you can compare the two situations. Marquette is in the Big East and Xavier the Atlantic 10. Marquette has won an NCAA championship, gone to the Final Four at least three times and won an NIT championship - Xavier has done none of those things. Marquette pays their coach better.
In addition, Michigan is only the second best (out of two) Big Ten basketball programs in its own state. And, the Michigan general student body is very dorky and the female students are ugly.

The first paragraph is spot on, the second, well it was funny. They do play basketball in what could double as the cattle barn at the county fair....

And the practice facilities are also dire - though TSUN AD Martin doesn't want to hear that argument.
Quote:
Martin said he had a list of candidates but declined to identify any of the coaches.
"Michigan's basketball opening is going to be a highly sought after job," he said. "I want to move as quickly as I can, but some of the coaches we're might be interested in are still coaching in the NCAA Tournament."
While Amaker fell short of helping his team reach its goal, the school has not appeared to live up to its contractual commitment to improve perhaps the Big Ten's worst basketball practice facilities.
"We've already hired a consultant to work on the infrastructure at Crisler Arena," Martin said. "And if a coach makes a major issue out of not having a practice facility yet, then they're probably not the right coach for Michigan."
