- This is where the promise was kept. This is where potential stopped being a fancy word for underachieving. This is where Greg Oden's grin remained, like the Cheshire Cat's, when all the trouble had vanished.
The big freshman center watched as his roommate at Ohio State and teammate since boyhood, Mike Conley Jr., the Most Outstanding Player of the South Regional, hurled the ball high in the Alamodome as time ran out in the Buckeyes' 92-76 rout of Memphis

The Bucks really looked up for the game yesterday, and the shots really weren't falling in the first half. I hope they can continue to get up without the David vs. Goliath comments - it seems like it took someone to make them angry to get them going. BP should start some "Hansbrough / Hibbert calling out Oden" rumors to ensure success.

FINAL 4 BABY!

Final Four a reality for Buckeyes

With contributions from freshmen and veterans, Ohio State pulls away from Memphis late for a 92-76 victory.

SAN ANTONIO ? From the podium Saturday after his Ohio State Buckeyes won the NCAA tournament's South Regional basketball championship, Thad Matta's view was just peachy.
Atlanta peachy. Final Four peachy.
"Three years ago, we talked about a vision for this program," the coach told the OSU part of the 26,260 fans at the Alamodome. "It just became a reality."

Intentional foul sparks Buckeyes

SAN ANTONIO ? Forget trash-talker Joey Dorsey.
Memphis' Chris Douglas-Roberts is the one who treated Greg Oden harshly during Ohio State's 92-76 South Regional win in the NCAA tournament ? at least according to the referees.
A key part of OSU's game-changing 20-8 run Saturday at the Alamodome came when Memphis was up 60-57. After a scramble, Oden got the ball near the block, jumped and scored.

ON TO FINAL FOUR
Buckeyes head to Atlanta after defeating Memphis

By MATT MARKEY
BLADE SPORTS WRITER

SAN ANTONIO - Well, scratch another defensive approach as faulty and ineffective at stopping Ohio State's Greg Oden.

After seeing the 7-foot freshman dominate three earlier games in the NCAA tournament, Memphis tried psychological warfare, and that, too, failed.

Ohio State fed off some trash-talking from the Tigers and put Memphis away 92-76 at the Alamodome yesterday to win the South Regional and a trip to the Final Four in Atlanta.

In previous games, opponents tried to swarm Oden, pound him, push him away from the basket, undercut him, and run him over. Memphis gave the war of words a try, and it failed miserably.

Congrats to the players and coaching staff. What a great time to be a Buckeye.

Actually, we didn't. Against you, we shot 24% from three point land the entire game, and against UT, we shot 42% from three point land in the second half. Against you, we shot 51% from the field in the entire game, and against UT we shot 58% from the field in the second half.

cwise, most of your posts here have been pretty classy, but I think this statement is just sour grapes. First of all, the way I saw things, you guys could hang with us when Oden was on the bench, but you really couldn't do much at all when Oden was out there (see the first five minutes of the game, the first few minutes of the second half, and the final ten minutes of the game). I think you guys were pretty lucky, therefore, to only have had to deal with Oden for 24 minutes. Second, just how many shots did you need to go your way? You already held a ridiculous advantage in three point shooting (46% for you, 24% for us). Of course, if you made all your shots and we missed all of ours, you'd win; but you're not really saying much by posting that.

In short, I think you guys played a very good game and a lot of things fell in your favor (Oden's foul situation, the three point shooting, etc.). Yet you still lost by 16. I simply don't share your sentiment that a few shots the other way and you guys win. In his post-game press conference, Calipari said that OSU was clearly the better team, and he was right. You guys played very, very well (and you should be commended for that), but the game, if anything, could have been a lot more of a blowout from my perspective.

San Antonio Express-News

Ohio State coach Thad Matta, who came to the school three years ago, has guided the Buckeyes to their first Final Four since the late 1960s, and he says he's going to let it sink in ? eventually.
"I'm exhausted. We haven't got much sleep," he said. "I take great pride in the kids and the work ethic they put in. But we don't want to be a team that checks off 'We made it to the Final Four' and get our rear ends kicked next Saturday.
