BUCKEYES MATCHUP
Saturday, March 31, 2007
OHIO STATE (34-3)
STARS Freshman center Greg Oden, a first-team All-American, leads the team in scoring (15.4) and rebounding (9.5) but the clutch play in the tournament has come from freshman point guard Mike Conley Jr. (15.3 points and 4.2 assists in the NCAAs) and senior guard Ron Lewis (21.8 points in the NCAAs).
COACH Thad Matta is in his third season with the Buckeyes. He is the first coach to lead them to a No. 1 ranking since 1962. He led his previous two schools (Butler and Xavier) to the NCAA tournaments in each of his four years with them.

Granted, there weren't too many highlights for OSU fans in last years OSU/Georgetown matchup, but does anyone remember when 6'6" J.J. Sullinger came with the weakside help and swatted 7'2" Hibbert on a putback layup? A hell of a play by Sullinger.

Somethings I have really noticed from looking at GTowns box scores is the opponents shooting %.
If teams would should around 44% they would beat GTown, but these teams are shooting mid 30's and soemtimes even worse...
I think that we could speed the tempo up and little bit and use our athleticism with Lewis, Butler and Conley and try and beat their big guys up and down the court...Remember GTown only play 7 guys and really don't get much production at all from their bench.
I wouldnt mind to see the 2-2-1 press come back out...This would make Green and Summers have to handle the ball some in the back court and maybe with Conley and Butler force some TO's...After that we could drop back into a 2-3 back it in a lil and stay out on their shooters and we need to shoot the ball well on offense and if we can get Hibbert into foul trouble we should be able to get Oden plenty of good looks...

This is way too early for me to get overly excited about this game but here goes.
G'town has won with defense, they have been keeping their opponents under 40% and any time that happens you have a better than average chance to win. Get it in into Greg a lot and let him score. A helpful strategy for G'town might be to foul Him a lot late in the game because he is a 65% ft shooter.
The press and zone will be used I am sure for turnovers and foul prevention.
I think that how green handles the zone will be a key in this game, or rather how we handle green .

2 keys.
1) When Hibbert is in, run'em.
2) When Hibbert is out (if Greg is in), go down low.
If we can do this, our odds of a victory should skyrocket.

Four things I think about ...
THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
Saturday, March 31, 2007
1. Guess how many times in his past 18 games Greg Oden has scored 20 points. Once. Today, he'll make it twice in 19. Heads-up on Roy Hibbert, Oden's quickness will win out, and dealing with a big body on the defensive end will keep him locked into the game. The big-man hype will force the referees to let them play and not get either Oden or Hibbert into foul trouble. Oden's wrist gets a little better every day, so why shouldn't Oden have his best game of the year in a Buckeyes win?

MEN'S FINAL FOUR INSIDER
Teammates since sixth grade until . . . when?
Saturday, March 31, 2007 Doug Lesmerises
Plain Dealer Reporter
Atlanta- Mike Conley Jr. has considered the possibility. He could be playing his last game with Greg Oden.
"I've thought about it, and it's kind of weird to think about because I've played with him for so long," Conley, Ohio State's freshman point guard, said Friday. "I'm trying to make a lasting impression. I want this game to be a good outcome."
Conley said he hasn't discussed NBA plans with the friend who has been his teammate since sixth grade.
But while preparing for tonight's Final Four matchup with Georgetown, Conley reiterated that it won't be him breaking up the partnership.
Stating what he first announced in the middle of the season, Conley said, "Yeah, definitely," when asked if he'd be returning for his sophomore season as a Buckeye.
