Not sure where else to post this, but here it is.....
Most of the people here who know me know I work on the Street, and with that I am one greedy bastard. That said, I have really thought about the situation these guys are in, and how would I deal with it. The older I get (im 38 now), the less important money is becoming to me. Maybe because I have it now, but I am starting to realize that money isnt everything (but perhaps lack of it is.) Study after study has shown that more money does not lead to more happiness. At this point of my life, I am starting to look back at what I am proud of, and little of it has to do with money. One of the first things that comes to mind is what I did in college - I banged out three tough undergrad degrees in a short time. Yes - it was hard as hell sometimes, but I did it and no one can take that away from me now. When Im 78 instead of 38, Im sure Ill look back on my life again to see what I was proud of and what really made me happy, and little of it will likely have anything to do with money. Maybe some of the jobs themselves, but definitely not the money in itself.
With all that, imagine you are in Oden's size 20 shoes 50 years from now. What do you think will make you more happy - looking at your bank account and saying - "Wow - Im so glad I have that 74 million put away instead of only 68 million!" Or would it be saying - "When I was in college, I won a national championship with my school. As a matter of fact, I was part of a team that could considered among the best that has ever graced an NCAA court."
You tell me which you think is more important......

In the interviews I've seen/read with Greg, he strikes me as unusally mature for his age. I hope he can appreciate the perspective you've illustrated in your post.

it's the assumption that oden will have that $74 million in 50 years that is the rub. career-ending injuries during college basketball are exceedingly rare. regardless, it is a risk that few would actually take when there is an all but guaranteed number one slot.

Let me clarify something about the vBet.
In the titles, I worded it "Will Greg go Pro?"; while on the betting line descriptions I said "Will his name be entered in the draft?". There's a small possibliity that Greg could enter his name in the draft, not hire an agent, and then return to tOSU. Although that's unlikely (it could definitely happen with Conley), it is still a possibility with Oden.
In the off chance that actually happens, I think I would have to pay both sides as correct (note that I did not wager on this event). So if he enters the draft, this bet should not be settled until he hires an agent or does something else that makes him unable to return.
I apologize for the discrepancy in my wording, but I'd say there's about a 1% chance of this happening. But if it does, I wanted to post in advance that I think it noboby should lose on this vBet. If both sides are then paid off, and Greg returns, everybody's happy except for fans of the team that wins the lottery - they'll have to get by with Kevin Durant.
