Women's basketball: Mason-Cox gives Buckeyes depth
Wednesday, November 14, 2007 3:30 AM
By Jim Massie
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
The box score numbers weren't exceptional. Lesslee Mason-Cox had four points and four rebounds in 11 minutes Sunday for Ohio State in its 63-57 women's basketball victory over Marist.
The numbers and the game action, however, marked significant milestones on two fronts for Mason-Cox because she hadn't played for the Buckeyes since academic troubles halted her freshman season in December.
Eleven months later, she has learned to balance books and basketball well enough to be back in the playing rotation for a game tonight against Tennessee State in Value City Arena.

OSU women's basketball preview
Wednesday, November 14, 2007 3:29 AM
By Jim Massie
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
TENNESSEE STATE AT OHIO STATE
7 TONIGHT
? Where: Value City Arena
? Records: Ohio State 1-0,
Tennessee State 0-0
? TV: None
? Radio: WOSU-AM (820)
? Key matchup: The Buckeyes would like to run more in this game than they did in their opening win against a veteran Marist team that dictated the pace in the second half. Look for the OSU guards to pressure the ball and for the inside players, especially center Jantel Lavender, to hit the boards and look for the outlet pass. If the Buckeyes are going to run, they might as well start tonight.

WOMEN'S ROUNDUP
Lavender leads OSU to victory
Thursday, November 15, 2007
From wire reports
Freshman Jantel Lavender scored 23 points to help No. 16 Ohio State to an 88-41 women's basketball win over Tennessee State on Wednesday night in Columbus.
The Buckeyes (2-0) scored 26 points off 14 first-half turnovers for a 42-14 halftime lead, then opened the second half with a 12-0 run before coach Jim Foster emptied the bench. Thirteen Buckeyes players scored and Ohio State shot 55.7 percent.
Tennessee State (0-1) missed its first 15 shots and committed five turnovers before Meredith Stafford hit a 3-pointer with 11:23 left in the half. The Lady Tigers shot just 30.4 percent for the game.

Women's basketball: Two players sign with Buckeyes
Thursday, November 15, 2007 3:52 AM
By Jim Massie
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Coach Jim Foster took two more steps toward changing the look and style of play of the Ohio State women's basketball team yesterday by signing two guards to national letters of intent.
Amber Stokes, a 5-foot-10 senior at Gahanna High School and the daughter for former OSU men's basketball captain Ronnie Stokes, and Samantha Prahalis, a 5-7 senior at Commack (N.Y.) High School, fit Foster's desire to field a running team.
"They are both very athletic, quick and explosive players," Foster said. "They have different skills sets."
Prahalis is a point guard whose passing skills have wowed crowds.
"Sam has got some stuff in her game," Foster said. "She's fun to watch. I think she's going to be fun to play with. If you run the floor, she's going to find you. She's got the gift. I think fans are going to love the way she plays."
