Had a long writeup written up that took me about 30 minutes, and accidentally hit the x in the tab button and lost all I had when I moved back and forth between tabs...
So I figured I would put something up, but not all that I had...
UNC Starters:
Hansbrough - We know what we are going to get a banger, that won't quit...Gotta keep him off the boards...He is averaging 3 to's/game so hopefully we can capatilize on that a little bit...KK, Hunter, Twig, and Lauderdale can hopefully give him some bodies to where he won't just wear our guys down.
Deon Thompson - Not really a scorer, but he can score if we don't keep him off the boards...Another big body that they will run out there...
Marcus Ginyard - He is more of a defender, not a great shooter by any means shoots in 25% range from long distance, but does get after it on defense and on the boards...Averages as many boards 6 as he does pts/game.
Wayne Ellington - He is a sharpshooter, shooting 48% from downtown...He is not as good off the dribble as he is off the catch and shoot, so we need to make him put it on the floor, but he can. Gotta stay out on him, especially if Ginyard, Thompson, and Hansbrough are on the court, as he and Frasor present the only shooting threats...No reason to double off those two guys...Hope Lighy, Diebler, and Turner can use their length to effect his shot, and make him put the ball on teh floor. I think the key to beating them is holding Ellington down, if you remember last year against us was his birthday and he went for 19 pts or so...
Bobby Frasor - I put him here, b/c I don't expect Lawson to play much if at all...No reason for UNC to risk any more injury they are going for the bigger prize...Not just one OOC game. Frasor is not anywhere near the creator that Lawson is, he is a shooter, but more of a catch and shoot guy...I think that Butler can give him trouble on both ends of the floor.
Without Lawson they will probably go about 8 deep, we will see Quinton Thomas, Alex Stephson, Danny Green.
Thomas is a quicker pg than Frasor, doesnt shoot the ball well, but can create better than Frasor.
Stephson is another big body, doesnt score that much, but does get on the board. Averaging 7 boards/game in 15 minutes...We are going to need to keep him off the boards...
Green - Comes off the bench to give spark offensively...3rd leading scorer on the team, and shoots the ball well from outside...Don't really know if he is a catch and shoot guy or off the dribble guy, but I am assuming more of the catch and shoot variety...Another guy we will need to stay out on...
What I see from UNC is a team that really don't create for each other, they will force some shots, and they hope to get offensive rebounds from Hansbrough, Thompson, Ginyard, and Stephson and get easy putbacks. They also love to run the floor and get up and down...I think that we can match that, but I also would like to see us slow down at times and run some sets...I think that KK can shoot over Hansbrough, so I would like to see him get the ball about 10 feet and square up and hit some jumpers...Much like Tim Duncan......
I think without them having Lawson we really have a decent shot at this game...Frasor and Thomas are nice players, but not in Lawsons league and neither really creates like Lawson, so it maybe harder for guys like Ellington and Green to get open looks from the outside, and cause them to force a little more than they would like, and might also take away from some shots that Frasor would get as he will have more pg duties in this game...
Overall we are going to need a big game from KK, Butler, and Lighty, and would love to see Hunter get it going some and would really like to see a breakout game from Diebler...It is just a matter of time...
We need to keep them off the boards, and control the tempo, and we have a shot at this one...
We don't shoot the ball well, and don't rebound it could get ugly, and I mean ugly...
Don't want to get ahead of myself, but I am kinda on the edge of liking our chances in this game...
