IU NEWS
Game preview and info: The Indiana men?s basketball team is ranked 13th in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and 14th by AP and will look to remain among the Big Ten leaders when it visits Ohio State. Indiana is coming of an 83-79 double overtime win at Illinois, while the Buckeyes defeated Michigan, 65-55 in their last contest. The Hoosiers? 8-1 conference mark is the best start for an IU squad since 2001-02, when Indiana also opened league play 7-1. IU, Wisconsin and Purdue entered the weekend as the only one-loss teams in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers boast the top two scorers in the conference in freshman Eric Gordon (21.6) and senior D.J. White (17.5). White also leads the league in and is ninth in the nation in rebounds, averaging 10.6 per game. He shared Big Ten Player of the week honors with Purdue?s E?Twaun Moore. It is the fourth time this season that White has earned the honor from the conference. Both White and Gordon are among the top 30 midseason candidates for the Wooden and Naismith Awards. With a win, the Hoosiers, who are 5-1 on opponents? home floors, would clinch their first winning road record since the 2001-02 season. The Hoosiers also got outstanding clutch play at Illinois from soph Armon Bassett (16 points, 11 in 2nd OT) and frosh Jordan Crawford (18 points off the bench). Ohio State is 16-7 overall and 7-3 in league play. |

Talks about Bassett and his foul shooting; Note: DO NOT FOUL BASSETT. Indiana basketball: Tough stretch for Hoosiers begins with Buckeyes; BLOOMINGTON -- Armon Bassett isn't about to flinch. He's worked too hard. He believes in himself too much. Foul Indiana's sophomore guard late in the game, put him on the free-throw line, and pay the price. Illinois paid Thursday night -- Bassett was 8-for-8 from the line in the final second overtime session -- and if the same opportunity comes at Ohio State today, look out. ?I don't get nervous at the free-throw line,? Bassett said. ?With D.J. (White) and EJ (Eric Gordon) doing most of the big-play stuff, hitting free throws is one of the things I can do to help the team.? The No. 14 Hoosiers need more of such help as they brace for a four-game run that ends with No. 8 Wisconsin, No. 11 Michigan State and No. 24 Purdue. Bassett has been to the line in only two of the last 10 games (he's 10-for-10 in that stretch). He's shooting 87.1 percent for the season. |

Indy Star
Hoosiers playing better away from home Indiana has a chance to win a 5th Big Ten road game. It has been a long time since the road in the Big Ten has been the least bit friendly for the Indiana University basketball team. Fifteen years, to be exact. The 1993 Hoosiers went 8-1 on the road as part of a 17-1 Big Ten championship season. Since then, no IU team has won more than four conference road games in a season. That could change today, when the No. 14 Hoosiers have a chance to record a fifth Big Ten road win when they play Ohio State. Thursday night's 83-79 double-overtime victory at Illinois was monumental. It was IU's first win at Illinois since 1999 and improved its road conference record to 4-1 with four Big Ten road games to play. The Hoosiers (19-3, 8-1) are 5-1 in true road games this season. D.J. White is well aware of the importance of winning on the road in conference play. In his first three seasons, IU was 6-18 in conference road games. |

Hoosier Report:
While Ohio State is flying beneath the radar, escaping the attention given to the top four teams in the standings (IU, Purdue, Wisconsin, and Michigan State), the Buckeyes still have the opportunity to make a run in the Big Ten and should qualify for the NCAA Tournament. While IU already is finished with Iowa, Illinois, and Michigan, this is the Hoosiers' first look at the Buckeyes. This game is also IU's last good chance to win a quality road game. After this game, IU has only three road games remaining: a likely loss at MSU and likely wins at Penn State and Northwestern. A win tomorrow would make a 16-2 conference record a realistic possibility. The Buckeyes play slowly (64.8 possessions per game) and, like Illinois, distinguish themselves with their field goal defense. They allow 42.9 % from two point range (#22) and 30.2 percent from three (#17). Offensively, other than two point field goal percentage (#58), OSU really doesn't distinguish itself. The Buckeyes are really bad at getting to the line and at shooting three pointers, but basically are middling at everything else. OSU's only home loss was in the Big Ten/ACC challenge to North Carolina. The Buckeyes, like most teams that have had success against IU. Of the nine Buckeyes who play meaningful minutes, four are 6-8 or taller and all but two are 6-5 or taller. |

A.J. Ratliff won't be playing today :
Indiana senior guard A.J., who did not play Thursday against Illinois because he was dealing with personal issues, has not yet rejoined the team, according to IU media relations director J.D. Campbell. The nature of Ratliff?s problems are not known. Indiana head coach Kelvin Sampson said Friday that he is not sure when Ratliff would return but that it will be up to him to make that decision when he is ready. |

. They showed that game on the Big 10 network Friday evening. I just can't believe that there were many games better than that one. The one thing that I will never forget about that game was the crowd noise-it was just deafening. Also, Bailey would go down and make a shot and JJ would come back down and equal him. Fond memories. Let's hope for a repeat today but it does not have to go into 2 OTs. |
