ST. LOUIS (AP)?Adam Emmenecker wound up a dazzling weekend with 16 points and six assists, and Jonathan Cox had 20 points to lead No. 20 Drake to its first Missouri Valley Conference tournament title with a 79-49 rout of Illinois State on Sunday.
Klayton Korver added 10 points for Drake (28-4), which shot 55.6 percent and became the first school to sweep the regular-season and tournament titles since co-champ Creighton in 2002.
The title game matched rookie head coaches from programs picked to finish near the bottom of the conference and coming off a combined 32-31 showing in 2006-07, and Drake became the first top seed to win the tournament in 11 seasons.

Really need Butler to hold serve in the Horizon.

Fortunately for bubble teams, the Horizon tourney has the wackiest setup in all the land. Butler needs just two wins to take the championship, one of which is already under their belt.
May be too late for ISU, however. Getting pasted by Drake looks to me like a preview of what happens when they face real tournament competition. Drake's good, but they're still in the MVC and have a weak SoS. What happens when ISU rolls up as a 12 seed and sees a top-three Pac-10 team? Could be ugly.

I'm the biggest non-BCS hoops homer on this site and I agree with you. This just wasn't a great year for the Valley. They've gamed the RPI well but the whole league has few quality OOC scalps. Drake over Butler being the biggest off the top of my head.

SAN DIEGO (AP)?Bill Grier has brought a touch of Gonzaga to the University of San Diego.
Going to the NCAA tournament became a way of life during Grier?s 16 seasons on Gonzaga?s coaching staff. Now he?s got the Toreros in the field of 64 in his first season at the little hilltop Catholic school.
Rob Jones and De?Jon Jackson keyed a huge second-half run for the Toreros, who stunned No. 20 Gonzaga 69-62 to win the West Coast Conference tournament championship game Monday night and clinch their first NCAA tournament berth since 2003.

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP)?No one can question Davidson?s dominance in the Southern Conference. Now, the Wildcats hope to make their mark on a much bigger stage.
Stephen Curry scored 23 points to lead No. 23 Davidson back into the NCAA tournament with its third straight league crown, and fourth since 2002, with a 65-49 victory over Elon on Monday night.
The win completed a perfect run through the conference. Curry doesn?t see why the success can?t continue at the NCAA tournament.

Do not sleep on Davidson.
