Big Ten basketball: Low APR could cost Crean scholarships at Indiana
Wednesday, April 23, 2008 6:21 AM
ASSOCIATED PRESS
Tom Crean isn't worried about wins, losses or even rosters right now.
To him, it's all about making grades.
As if the new Indiana coach didn't have enough to worry about with an NCAA investigation, he's now wrestling with an academic problem that threatens to cost the program up to two additional scholarships.
"The APR (academic progress report) is really the governing body for all of what's going on right now, so we have to put that at the forefront of where we're at," he said yesterday. "I think every coach running a successful program has to be concerned with where we are in terms of the APR."

Tan Tommy was already a coach who depended almost solely on talent......with his brilliant dribble weave offensive system......and instilling high basketball IQ in players like Dominic James who fouls players shooting 3's when they are up by 3 on the last possession.
They'll be Penn State bad next season.

If they can bring everyone back and snag another recruit I think they will be fine...Probably 6th or 7th with Illinois...
Reading a little more on what is going on and guys leaving and what not...
MSU (Lots of talent, can Izzo win a big ten title?)
tOSU (hopefully we can pull in a juco that can help at the PF, if so I like us here)
Purdue (Lose of Martin hurts alot IMO...Still lots of talent and a quick incoming PG, but they aren't sneaking up on anyone this year)
Wisky (good returning, how will the young guys step up?)
Minny (Love what tubby is doing)
Illinois (Heavy guard lineup, not much inside)
Indiana (if everyone comes back, and they can nag another recruit)
PSU (Solid young talent)
Michigan (Can Harris carry the team?)
Iowa (will the 6 man incoming class make themselves known next year)
NW (Return alot)
Overall I think we have a pretty talented league next year...Wouldn't mind seeing a couple solid recuits brought in in the signing period...

IU signs Alabama's top prep basketball player
Call it the Alabama connection, but just before Nick Williams decided to sign to play basketball for Indiana University, he received a call from D.J. White.
White is from Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Williams is from Mobile.

Williams is the highest ranked player in IU's Class of 2008, joining shooting guards Matt Roth and Devan Dumes, and center Tom Pritchard. Williams was ranked No. 145 in rivals.com's most recent rankings. Hoopmasters.com ranks Williams No. 104.

Like I said if the two come back for Indiana they throw their hat in the ring for the second tier, if not maybe the first tier, depending on how good some of the new comers are...
Illinois fans thing they belong in the top tier as well, but that is yet to be seen IMO...

The top 3 teams in the Big Ten next year will be Purdue, Michigan State and Ohio State.......the rest have more than a few question marks.
Purdue has no holes.....Michigan State returns everyone but Neitzel I believe and the only question for Ohio State is getting consistent play out of the point guard position.

I really think you have to keep Wisconsin in the mix even though they lose Flowers and Butch. They have players who will take their places fairly easily. Don't forget that MSU loses Naymik and they really don't have many good big man but I know they will be up there. With regards to the Buckeyes, it will be nice to see what this weekend brings. A 4 player with a good outside shot would certainly help.

I agree with leaving out Wisky, but they very easily could be in the top 3 group, if some of the young guys give good minutes...They have a very solid top 4 coming back...
I think Purdue losing Martin will hurt more than people think...
They have Kramer, Moore, Moore, Hummel, Johnson, and some others, but in terms of depth they have left they could str | |
